Dear NPS Families
Welcome to Term 3!
This Term, we welcome Mr Sam Langmaid to our NPS team to fill the role of Health & Physical Education teacher to cover Mr Ben Humphrey's leave for the remainder of the year. Sam will also be working with 5-6A each Friday.
Sam is a highly experienced HPE teacher and we are very fortunate to have secured a contract with him for the remainder of the year.
PICKUP ZONE
In order to ensure that our pickup zone functions smoothly it is important that all drivers using this area follow the same process.
- You must be in your car with it running.
- All children are to enter cars from the top pick up space not the school drive way. Generally children with not be allowed to go to the end of the line of cars as this causes a delay with cars being backup on the road waiting to enter the pick up zone.
- Please ensure that cars are moving up as spaces occur, even if you are waiting to pull out.
Thank you for your co-operation with this as it's important that this runs smoothly to manintain the safety of students.
REAL SCHOOLS
Our partnership with Real Schools has enabled our school to develop understanding of the importance of language and the use of affective statements in the classroom and playground.
In this short video Jemma Rust, our expert facilitator will share with us what affective statements are and how they can support families at school and at home. Using a “feelings” word in a statement can have a positive impact on encouraging your child to cooperate rather than asking them to comply.. Affective Statements | Parent Portal | Real Schools The following article shares more insight into how these statements can be really powerful Affective statements | Parent Portal | Real Schools

It’s almost time for one of our favourite weeks of the year - Book Week!
Our Literacy Leaders are busy planning activities to run across the school and staff have a dress-up theme up their ‘woolly’ sleeves (hint hint).
Tuesday 19th August will be our annual dress up parade which parents are invited to view from the kinder yard.
This will run from 9:10 - 9:30 (approx.).
Rather than splashing out on expensive costumes, we encourage students to get creative with items from home; cardboard creations and clothes from the cupboard can be just as effective as store-bought costumes.
We’re looking forward to ‘Booking an Adventure’ as we celebrate our love of reading.

My Holiday -
Mark-making provides children with a way to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas through visual representation.

We are excited to be bringing lots of our learning from our Health and Wellbeing classes to each edition of the newsletter. This might be new learning, weekly routines of even ideas for supporting health and wellbeing with your child at home.
Last Term, Grade 3-4 classes have done lots of learning about what it looks like to be an ‘Upstander’. With many discussions on bullying in our lessons, this is a key strategy that is integral when dealing with conflict and understanding that Bullying is EVERYONE’S problem! Children were tasked with creating a visually eye-catching poster demonstrating these Upstander behaviours. Here are some of our strategies for moving from a bystander to an upstander.

This Term, Grade 5/6 classes have been diving into the world of nutrition and healthy eating! With high school on the horizon, we’re helping students build the knowledge and habits they’ll need as they begin to make more of their own food choices. So far, we’ve explored why we eat, how energy fuels our bodies, and unpacked the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. Through fun and interactive activities, students are learning the importance of balanced meals and how good food choices support a healthy life. We’re excited to see them carry these lessons into the years ahead.

‘Bullying No Way: National Week of Action’ is coming up between the 11-15th of Aug.
Bullying online, or ‘cyberbullying’, is similar to offline bullying. Both happen when someone causes mental harm to another person who feels unable to stop it happening, which can also lead to physical suffering.
The eSaftey Commissioner is running free webinars for parents to help equip and support you in keeping your kids safe online. Feel free to sign up to one of the sessions listed below.’
Excitedly, this year Norwood is again participating in the STEM Racing Australia F1 In Schools Competition. This involves the students working in teams of 3 to design, test and time trial mini formula 1 cars. The teams must work closely together to create the fastest possible car they can within a very strict set of rules.
This is our 6th year participating and we have several former students now participating in the High School Competition, with some even going to the National Championships. Last year we finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the State finals.
The competition will again be held in Launceston at the Tailrace Centre on the 26th November. Excitedly we have 10 teams participating, with 5 designing and making 3D printed cars and 5 designing and making balsa wood cars.
We are again seeking sponsorships for our cars to support our participation. The sponsorship cost is $300 dollars, and we will put your company’s logo on the car, and you will also get to keep a version of the car. The music of Elvis comes alive in All Shook Up. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, All Shook Up follows a small Midwestern town that is thrown into a frenzy with the arrival of Chad, a good-looking, motorcycle-riding roustabout, who rides from town to town with a guitar on his back, blue suede shoes on his feet, and a song in his heart. Repressed by their conservative mayor, the town begins to come alive once more under Chad’s influence. Lovers meet, woo, pursue, and more, all in one zany night that will change the town forever. All Shook Up is a rocking, heartwarming tale about following dreams, opening up to love, and the power of music.
