May 25th
Here we are quickly heading towards the middle of the year. The weather is certainly indicating that winter is well on its way!
I have noticed over the past week that a high number of our students are turning up to school in their summer uniforms. Whilst many will say that they are not cold, the human body will be affected and ultimately use more energy trying to stay warm. Yes, some of us feel the cold more than others, but being adequately clothed to protect our bodies from the cold is very important. Just a jumper is often adequate and can be removed easily for the classroom, sport etc.
I was wonderful to see the students participating so well in the cross-country last Friday, also to be able to have family members join in with the excitement on the day. The children certainly showed high levels of perseverance and resilience! A great deal of photos were taken on the day and we currently have a slide show presentation on the screen in the office foyer.
School Staring Time & Drop off
Our supervision for the beginning of the day commences at 8:30am which means that children should not be here unaccompanied by an adult before that time. Please be aware that we still have a range of COVID protocols in place which have been directed from Public Health. It is however great to see families being able to come to classrooms to drop off their children, we do ask though that you 'drop and go' quickly so that we don't end up with too many adults in the room at the same time.
Staff are available to assist you if you have a child who is struggling to separate.
Kind regards, Karen
We held our Prep – Grade 6 Cross Country carnival last Friday at school. It was great to have so many parents and spectators back at a school sporting event supporting our eager young runners. Participation and house spirit was excellent from students throughout the day, ending in some great efforts and close races.
In terms of our house competition, it was a close event between our 3 houses during the day. Waratah house had a slim lead after the Grade 3/4 carnival however Banksia roared back in the 5/6 carnival in the afternoon to take out the overall winner by 5 points. Waratah and Banksia are now in a tie for the lead in our year-long House Competition.
The Kinder students will be having their event on Thursday afternoon at school.
Enjoy the following photos from the day:

Students are required to wear their sports uniform, bring a large drink bottle and their jumper. No lunch orders on this day. A spare pair of shoes and socks may also be a good idea. Please bring your asthma puffer if required.
Students should have brought home a note with other relevant information.
It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school last week who were deserving recipients of Values Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Congratulations to all recipients.

On Friday the 20th May grade 3/4 s went to the hall in the afternoon for a science provocation about forces. The question we were all given was ‘How do we make things move?’. There was a range of activities set up for us to explore this question. The stations were tyres, ropes, toy trains, toy cars, mini trampolines, colourful balloons and spinning things.
We moved around the rotations in small groups. Each person had a sheet to write on and investigate what they found out and what wonderings they had.
It was an awesome experience, and we can’t wait to find out more about forces.
Thank you to our teachers for organising, especially Mr Walker who put a lot of time into setting this up for us.

Every second year a personal development program is held to support families in educating children with age appropriate information in an interactive and relaxed setting. Wendy Gregory will return to our school, commencing June 14th. All grades will participate, with some grades requiring more time than others. A parent letter will be sent home in the coming weeks and a brochure of the content for different grades will be available for collection from the school office if you would like one. More information to follow.

Pre-Kinder has started for the term. It has been wonderful to see so many old and new families attend. If you know of anyone with a child born in 2018 please tell them to contact the school office so they can join in the fun!
We are excited to be able to participate in the LSSSA 5-6 Sport program again. Spectators are welcome at home games only. All students will bring home a code of conduct form to be completed before they can participate in 5-6 sport.

Transitioning from primary to high school is a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but it can also be challenging or worrying for many students and their families. Norwood Primary School are fortunate to be able to collaborate with local high schools in order to make this process a smooth one. Our local schools are aiming to assist students and their families by making sure every child is prepared and feels supported in their choice for high school learning in 2023.
Coming up later this Term we have experiences available for those students who will be attending Queechy High School and Kings Meadows High School, plus those students who are still unsure. The purpose of both of these experiences is to increase students connectedness to their Year 7 high school, whilst fostering engagement through introductory experiences.
There will be more information to come around these sessions.
If you haven’t already filled in the our Grade 6 Transition Survey the link is here:

We need your help!
Father’s Day Stall - We still need a coordinator for the Father’s Day Stall. The role of coordinator is very important but not as scary as it may seem. A coordinator does the ordering, organises packing, pricing and volunteers for the day. The stall will be held on Wednesday 31st August and Thursday 1st September. If you are able to assist please contact us.
School Fair – Saturday 17th September, save the date! Planning is starting to ramp up, if you would like to be involved with the planning committee please contact us.
We are currently asking for donations for your old clean plant pots, Justin O’Donnell has kindly offered to grow cuttings ready for sale at the fair.
Please like and share our Facebook page to help keep you updated with all our current activities!
