Community News
Thank you families for your consideration with checking in when entering the school. Given what is happening in other states at present, I feel so fortunate to live in Tasmania. The Department of Education continues to provide updated information from Public Health. We will continue to provide any information required to families in a timely manner. At times, particularly if information is shared on a weekend, we may need to do this through our Facebook page. Where possible, however, we will either send a whole school text or email for larger bodied information.
All Department of Education schools are required to have a plan for the event of a snap lockdown.
Are your contact details up to date? In the event of a medical emergency or illness it is crucial that we have the correct numbers to contact parents/carers. The school also frequently uses text and email to share important information with families, if we don’t have your correct email address and mobile number you could miss important messages from the school.
In the event of a snap lockdown this is how we will communicate with families.
You can update your contact details in person at the office, over the phone, text (0407 665 749) or email norwood.primary@education.tas.gov.au
Uniforms
With the current cold weather, we have noticed an increase in children wearing hoodies and other non-uniform jackets/ jumpers. Please talk with us if you require some support with obtaining a Norwood Primary School jacket or jumper. Any overcoat is acceptable, however, students will be required to remove these within the classroom. We also ask the students with hair longer than shoulder length to have their hair tied back.
End of day pick up
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our families for your perseverance as we have worked through a system for pick up in the Drop off and Pick up zone. Generally, students have been wonderful in understanding where to wait and also the need to wait for their pickup person to move upwards towards the steps. The need for them to wait for cars to move upwards is to decrease the amount of traffic waiting on the road to pull in to the zone whilst children are getting into cars. Please remember to keep moving towards the top of this zone as the cars move.
Kind regards, Karen
Classes across the school have been working hard on unpacking our ‘Expected Student Behaviour’ documents. Our teachers have observed extremely positive engagement & feedback from our students. These 'Expected Student Behaviours' shape our students “way of working” and are closely aligned to our core values of Aspiration, Growth, Courage and Respect. At Norwood Primary School we will celebrate success both with and for our students, through acknowledging and rewarding the positive behaviour we want to see. Below are two of the avenues we will be utilising to promote positive behaviour throughout NPS:
Re-structure of the use of Tokens
Tokens are a way of acknowledging those students displaying the Expected Student Behaviour. This positive reinforcement is used for those students who are consistently displaying these behaviours, while having a parallel impact on other students around them. Through utilising this system of positive reinforcement, we are creating a culture where positive behaviour is noticed, praised and acknowledged in a broader context. We want to encourage our students to display our Expected Student Behaviour and this process is one way of achieving this.
Values Certificates
By now you may be aware of a shift from our Merit Certificates to our new Values based Certificates. These certificates highlight those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Values Certificates are awarded to students in assemblies and as a school, we will follow the same process for parent/guardian interaction as previously used.
Please speak to your child around these positive aspects of NPS and how they are working towards these acknowledgments.

During Book Week, we will be running a Book Fair in the library with loads of quality literature for sale at great prices.
During library lessons next week, students will have the opportunity to view the available books and fill in a Wish List. You can buy prepaid vouchers online that will act as cash on the day. Instructions for this are on the Wish List. Alternatively, you can shop and pay in person with cash or EFTPOS.
Shopping times will be during Book Week and are listed below. In keeping with COVID regulations, we must limit the number of people gathered in one place and so have scheduled shopping times for each year group. If the designated times don’t work for your family, you are able to shop at any of the other available times.
Entry for the fair will be through the library door closest to the office. Arrows and an exit point will indicate the direction for movement within the fair.
We look forward to sharing in the excitement of book shopping!

5-6 Richards created inspiring works of art to enter in a competition to have them displayed in the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Paralympics Australian Athlete village. They are designed to inspire our amazing Paralympians and provide words of encouragement and support from back home. They put in lots of effort and include many symbols of Australia, and of the Paralympic games. Well done 5-6 Richards.
