Values at Norwood Primary School
Norwood Primary School has been a long-time advocate of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) in our everyday interactions within our school. During 2020 we began some work with staff to align the Department of Education values of Aspiration, Growth, Courage and Respect with our PBS structures. This year we have continued this approach and have re-aligned our behavioural approach to reflect the DoE values. These Values represent what is at the heart of our Department and school. They reflect what we stand for, guide our decision making and underpin all aspects of ours and our students work.
Over the coming weeks you are going to hear and see a lot more around these VALUES as our class teachers & leadership staff begin to unpack our 'Expected Student Behaviour' with students. Many classes have already begun this work and have experienced extremely positive engagement & feedback from our students. In setting our 'Expected Student Behaviour', we have provided a framework that supports wellbeing and behaviour, enabling all learners to succeed. These 'Expected Student Behaviours' form our students “way of working” and are aligned to our core values of Aspiration, Growth, Courage and Respect. At NPS we will celebrate success both with and for our students, through acknowledging and rewarding the positive behaviour we want to see. Set out below are four avenues we will consistently use to promote positive behaviour throughout NPS:
- Re-structure of the use of Tokens
- Values Certificates
- Values Badges
- Positive Postcards
- Aussie of the Month (2 students per month)
We are currently working with a graphic designer to update some signage around the school that will reflect this approach.
Further information around each of the four processes will be available through coming newsletters.
Please speak to your child around these positive aspects of NPS and how they are working towards these acknowledgments. Please contact myself or Luke Padgett (Assistant Principal) at the school if you had any questions.

Aussie of the Month
Congratulations to Bryce and Maisy who were selected as this month's Primary and ECE Aussie of the Month.
Prep Green/Gale have been learning about rhyming words. We read Oi Frog! by Kes Gray and Jim Fields. In this funny story, lots of animals sit on things that rhyme with their names. We used plasticine to make models of animals sitting on things that rhyme with their names.
We are currently experiencing challenges in obtaining appropriate relief class teachers. On the occasions when we are unable to find appropriate class cover, we have a plan for children in the class to be relocated. Specifically, groups of 4-5 children are relocated to their ‘relocation class’ for the day. This group and their class remains constant throughout the year allowing for relationships with other students and teachers to develop. We re-allocate Early Childhood children across the ECE classrooms and the same for Primary children. Children are supported with re-allocation first thing in the morning by senior staff. Thanks for your understanding with this.

Kinder 2022
It's that time of the year again! Enrolment forms for children who live in our school intake area and who will be coming into kindergarten in 2022 will be available at Pre-Kinder next week. Please return these forms to the office as quickly as you can, along with:
- your child’s birth certificate,
- immunisation record
- documentation of child’s medical conditions
- proof of parent identity eg. Driver licence,
- proof of residence
Surveys regarding preferences for session times will be emailed to you on return of your enrolment forms.
Please pass this information onto other families living in the Norwood community. Thank you!

Levies are one of the many ways that families contribute to our school community. Levies support student learning by contributing towards the cost of essential items and services.
When setting school levies and charges the school:
- Considers inclusive education, community expectations and family financial constraints
- Sets levies at the lowest amount possible
- Consults with the School Association of the school
Payment for school levies are due, if you are unable to pay in full we are happy to take instalments, please contact Nicole on 6344 2533 to arrange. Payments can be made at the school using cash or card or online via BPay. Families with a Centerlink Health Care Card are eligible for financial assistance click here to apply online Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) (education.tas.gov.au)

Adventure Awaits Fundraising
School Fair 2022
This year we are sadly losing some families from the school who have finished their primary school years at Norwood.
Ben Cunningham has been our Head of the Fair Committee in 2018 and 2020 and was an amazing, enthusiastic, and such a hard worker in leading our committee to such an amazing and successful two fairs.
Kirsty Crawford was also a member of the fair committee the last two fairs and again did so much in helping coordinate teachers and class stalls and the run of the day.
Jonathan Hart was our go to man both years with coordinating all our electrical needs and set up and one of our best train drivers yet.
We would like to Thank all three of these amazing parents who worked so hard with the rest of the committee to make these fairs such a fun filled day for all the families at Norwood and such a success in fundraising with just over $14000 made each of these years for the school.
Now we need someone else to take the reigns for 2022, and anyone else that would like to be part of the Fair Committee to contact us so we can get a group together to start organising later in the year in preparation for a Fair early 2022. If we don’t have a committed group of 8-10 people we cannot go ahead with a Fair, so please gather your friends and contact us at norwoodpsa@gmail.com
Father's Day Stall
Father’s Day Stall preparation is underway with less than 6 weeks to go, so we are asking if anyone would like to donate any items for the stall if they could be dropped off at the Office.
In particular we are after:
- Individual wrapped small chocolates (no nuts please)
- Small potted plants
Or anything you think might be suitable would be so appreciated.
Father’s Day Stall will be held over two days.
Wednesday 1st September
Thursday 2nd September
If anyone is available to help any time on these days please let me know, it’s great fun.
Please send an email to norwoodpsa@gmail.com or send a message with your availability to Norwood Primary School Association Facebook page. Thankyou.
