Community News
Dear NPS Families
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.
The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy
As we enter 2025, NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
Due to the Term 2 break beginning at the same time as NAIDOC Week, classes have been celebrating this important event this week. Students have continued to build on their understanding of Indigenous Cultures, History and present & future through the lens of inquiry-based learning from our Kindergarten through to year six. The celebrations will continue in classes throughout this week along with a special story reading during this week's assembly.
Please feel free to come into classes at drop off and/or pick up time to take a look at the various NAIDOC Week activities happening in classrooms.
Here are a few photos from our Kinder & Prep classes.....
Best wishes to all our staff and students for a healthy and restful break from this Friday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 21st July.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan | Principal

1/2C have been fortunate to have Miss Pilsbury, from UTAS, working in our class over the past 4 weeks. Throughout her time with us, she has been teaching us all about maps, types and features of maps, how to follow them and directions. At the end of the unit, we created our own class city, consisting of all the buildings we thought were important. We think it looks amazing! Finally, we headed outside for a treasure hunt, following the directions on a map to find the hidden treasure. Thank you, Miss Pilsbury for all of your hard work, we will miss you!

5/6C
During Term 2, in 5/6 Spencer we have been focussing on persuasive advertisements. We have analysed a range of advertisements to determine the purpose and target audience, and to identify the persuasive devices that the author has used. We then each created our own advertisements using Canva, Word and/or Powerpoint to persuade others to purchase our chosen item.
We have really enjoyed this unit, exploring the different persuasive devices used by authors and experimenting to determine how these devices let us persuade when creating our own work.

On Tuesday 24th June, Prep Dahl and Prep Garwood set off on our excursion to Hagley Farm. It was a very wet day, but we had so much fun. We learnt so many things about living things and their features.

Thank you to Ken and the team at Tasmanian Brick Enthusiasts for their kind donation of Lego for our lunch time hall programs. The students have excitedly been checking out and playing with it in the last week of term.

Congratulations to our NPS students who participated in the Primary Netball Championships at Hoblers Bridge last Friday. It was a great day on and off the court, with all teams showing excellent sportmanship, effort and encouragement.
Thank you to all our volunteers who helped and our family, friends and supportors who came to cheer on our teams!

Terms 1 and 2 have been very busy in the PE and Sport space at NPS. We have had 3x Athletics Carnivals, 3x Cross Country Carnivals, Futsal Tournament, Basketball Tournament, Netball Championships and Swimming and Water Safety! Here is a small collection of images from these events.

Our school hours are from 8:30am through to 3:00pm. It is important that parents do not bring children to school before school hours because there is no supervision of students at that time. Similarly, it is important parents either collect their children at the end of the school day or arrange for them to catch the bus home/make other collection arrangements so that students are not left unsupervised at the end of the school day. Unsupervised students may engage in dangerous play or put themselves in dangerous locations such as car parks being used by buses and cars during school drop off/pick up. Parents are responsible for their child outside school hours unless they have accessed school-based childcare during these times.
We are getting a huge amount of lost property, mostly jumpers and jackets. Please ensure your school clothing is clearly named. If your child has lost any clothing, please see the school office to look through our unnamed lost property. We would love to get these returned to families.
