Kindergarten Enrolments 2025
Dear NPS Families
It's very hard to believe that we are at the end of term 3....where has the year gone! Just a reminder that we are now moving back to wearing hats with everyone requiring to wear these outdoors from the beginning of term 4.
Planning for 2025
We are under way with our planning for 2025 and have started considering options for class models. Permanent staffing is close to being finalised and we expect to have the majority of our staffing confirmed by mid term 4.
Staff work collaboratively to make decisions regarding student class placement, making decisions by bringing together all the information available to create the best possible learning environments for all students with a balance of academic, social and emotional needs and application to learning. Whilst we understand that having supportive relationships with peers within each class is very important for students, having one's best friend is not always the best approach or possible.
If you have additional information about your child which is unknown to the school, please place this information in an email to norwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au by Friday 1st November at the latest. If you have anything that you would prefer to share in person rather than in a email, please contact the school office to make an time to meet with either myself, Simone Fox or Scott Driessen (Student Support Leaders) previous to the above date.
Please note requests for individual teachers will not be considered.
Student Phone Policy
The DECYP has a strict policy in regards to use of mobile phones by students of which schools will make slight contextual changes, for example, Primary or High School and storage options.
Whilst we have monitored this and allowed students to switch off their phones and have them handed to teachers or kept in their bags, we are increasingly experiencing problems with phones (including Smart Watches) being used during school hours by students and in some instances, photos have been taken and later posted on social media without consent. Please note that consent in a primary school refers to parental/carer consent.
This week all families will receive a copy of the NPS Use of Mobile Phones by Students at School Policy via email which has been updated particularly in regards to storage of phones. This updated policy has been supported and approved by the School Association Executive and Members.
The biggest change will be that all student mobile phones will be required to be handed in at the school office and picked at the end of the day. Smart Watches must be turned to aeroplane mode.
Please ensure that you read through the policy for further information prior to the beginning of term 3.
School Grounds Access
Everyone is no doubt now aware that the electronic access chain has been installed at the entrance of the school. As previously stated, this has been necessary for student safety. The car park has certainly been much more manageable with greater visibility since this has been in operation which means higher level safety for all children in school grounds.
Please no not attempt to follow a car entering the car park as the chain is on a timer and could lift up as the second car is going over it, potentially causing damage to the under body of the car. Many thanks for your understanding of this necessary safety procedure.
Wishing everyone concerned a relaxing and healthy term break. Fingers crossed for some warmer and drier weather for term 4.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal

This will be an opportunity for our young athletes to display their sporting skills through a variety of activities in a fun environment. Some activities undertaken will have an ‘Olympics’ theme to them.
Parents are welcome to attend this event and support their child/ren during the activities.
On Sunday, 8 grade 5/6 students from Mr Walker's Maths Extension class participated in the Mathematical Association of Tasmanian Maths Relays. In two teams of 4, they had to attempt to answer 20 problem solving questions against 16 other teams. They did an outstanding job representing Norwood, with Norwood B (Timothy, Olivia, Rhys and Lucas) coming 3rd with 145 points and Norwood A (Austen, Zach, Seb and Ryan) only 10 points behind. Thank you to Mrs Scolyer for being a marker on the day.
We have had many committed readers reaching the 100 and 200 Nights of Reading milestones lately. This week, we held our Outside Play and Movie & Popcorn rewards for the students that selected these options as their prize. As well as choosing from our regular rewards, students reaching 200 Nights of Reading also choose a beautiful book to keep. Keep up the great reading everyone!
The school disco will be held on Thursday 26th September. The kinder and Preps disco will be held during the afternoon in school time. There is no cost involved for the Kinder and Preps.
The other disco sessions will be held at the following times in the school hall.
Grade 1/2 - 3:30 – 4:30pm
Grade 3/4 – 4:45 – 6:00pm
Grade 5/6 – 6:15 – 7:30pm
Cost: $3
Chocolates, popcorn and glow sticks: $1 each.
The only drink available will be water. Students are encouraged to bring their own named water/drink bottle.
At the conclusion of the disco students will need a guardian to collect them from the hall. They will not be permitted to leave on their own.
STRICTLY no phones allowed so please leave them at home and come and have some fun with Disco Dan and your friends.
Please be aware we have a large amount of lost property!
The most common items making their way to lost property include jumpers and jackets which are un-named. Students have access to lost property during the school day to search for misplaced possessions. When possible, labelled items in lost property will be returned to students.
Due to the limited space for lost property, unlabelled and unclaimed items will be disposed of or donated to our spare uniform clothes at the end of Term 3.
We discourage children from bringing unnecessary personal items such as money, jewellery, toys or other precious possessions to school as the loss of these can be very upsetting.
