From the Principal
Dear NPS Families
It's very hard to believe that we are at the end of term 3....where has the year gone! Just a reminder that we are now moving back to wearing hats with everyone requiring to wear these outdoors from the beginning of term 4.
Planning for 2025
We are under way with our planning for 2025 and have started considering options for class models. Permanent staffing is close to being finalised and we expect to have the majority of our staffing confirmed by mid term 4.
Staff work collaboratively to make decisions regarding student class placement, making decisions by bringing together all the information available to create the best possible learning environments for all students with a balance of academic, social and emotional needs and application to learning. Whilst we understand that having supportive relationships with peers within each class is very important for students, having one's best friend is not always the best approach or possible.
If you have additional information about your child which is unknown to the school, please place this information in an email to norwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au by Friday 1st November at the latest. If you have anything that you would prefer to share in person rather than in a email, please contact the school office to make an time to meet with either myself, Simone Fox or Scott Driessen (Student Support Leaders) previous to the above date.
Please note requests for individual teachers will not be considered.
Student Phone Policy
The DECYP has a strict policy in regards to use of mobile phones by students of which schools will make slight contextual changes, for example, Primary or High School and storage options.
Whilst we have monitored this and allowed students to switch off their phones and have them handed to teachers or kept in their bags, we are increasingly experiencing problems with phones (including Smart Watches) being used during school hours by students and in some instances, photos have been taken and later posted on social media without consent. Please note that consent in a primary school refers to parental/carer consent.
This week all families will receive a copy of the NPS Use of Mobile Phones by Students at School Policy via email which has been updated particularly in regards to storage of phones. This updated policy has been supported and approved by the School Association Executive and Members.
The biggest change will be that all student mobile phones will be required to be handed in at the school office and picked at the end of the day. Smart Watches must be turned to aeroplane mode.
Please ensure that you read through the policy for further information prior to the beginning of term 3.
School Grounds Access
Everyone is no doubt now aware that the electronic access chain has been installed at the entrance of the school. As previously stated, this has been necessary for student safety. The car park has certainly been much more manageable with greater visibility since this has been in operation which means higher level safety for all children in school grounds.
Please no not attempt to follow a car entering the car park as the chain is on a timer and could lift up as the second car is going over it, potentially causing damage to the under body of the car. Many thanks for your understanding of this necessary safety procedure.
Wishing everyone concerned a relaxing and healthy term break. Fingers crossed for some warmer and drier weather for term 4.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal
