Continued Outdoor Improvements
Kind regards, Karen
To celebrate Science Week, Grade 1/2’s this week will all have had the opportunity to attend activities at the QVMAG at Inveresk. On Monday half of our students attended the wonderful interactive activities. This excursion is a wonderful way to start our next Inquiry about Celestial objects. The remainder of the 1/2’s will attend Wednesday and we will have more wonderful photos to share through our newsletter and on our FB Page this week.
Value Certificate Recipients
It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school last week, who were deserving recipients of Values Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Congratulations to all recipients.

Medication at School
If your child requires ‘over the counter’ medication at school you must sign a parent permission form.
If your child requires prescribed medication (eg. antibiotics) you must have an ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation’ completed by a doctor, pharmacist or practice nurse. These forms are available at the school office or from the Department of Education website. Medication - The Department of Education Tasmania
All medication must be handed into the school office in the original packaging. Students can only have their asthma medication in their bags.
If your child has Asthma and requires Asthma medication (eg. Ventolin) at school we will need an Asthma Action Plan signed by a doctor and parent. These must be updated annually.
Please ask at the School Office if you have any questions.
Drink Bottles
Hats
As per our Sun Safe Policy, hats must be worn from the beginning of September until end of April. They can be purchased from Midford in Charles Street.
Allergy Awareness
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Years 4–6 at Norwood Primary School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: 28/8/2023 – 22/09/2023
Who: Years 4 - 6
What do I need to do:
You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4- 6 students, including a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact Luke Padgett at the school.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
So far in the Early Childhood Wellbeing Program this term we have explored Respect and ways we can show respect towards others. We have begun to think about ways that we can show that we are good friends and set goals to help us become better friends. We have even begun to think about ‘self talk’ and ways that we can help ourselves to turn a negative situation into a positive one!
Book Week falls in Week 5 of this term. This year, the theme is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’.
Grades 3-5 and invited Grade 6's
Starts Monday 4th September - Finishes on Friday 15th September.
The SWSP is a crucial part of HPE curriculum and an excellent opportunity for all students to improve their swimming skills, boat safety knowledge as well as overall confidence in aquatic environments. The program is beneficial for all students, no matter their previous experience in the pool.
The Annual Consent Form for Aquatic (water-based) Activities was completed at the start of 2023. If you would like to update any details on this form please let the Office know.

Excitedly this year Norwood is again participating in the REA F1 In Schools Competition. This international competition involves the students working in teams of 3 to design, test and time trial mini formula 1 cars. Last year one of our teams won the State Final, which will again be held in Launceston at the end of Term 3. For us to participate in this outstanding competition we are looking for sponsors for our car. The sponsorship cost is $250, which is the cost of registration. We will put your companies logo on the car and you will also get to keep the car. For more information, please contact Duncan Walker or Nicole Moir at school for more information.
Libraries Tasmania is providing all Tasmanian Government school students with free access to thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, comics, graphic novels and easy reads through the Sora app on school or home devices.
