April 13th
An enormous thank you and congratulations to our entire school community for keeping the focus on learning as our number 1 priority this term. At times, in particular with the continued challenges Covid has provided, it has been difficult. I would like to acknowledge all in our community for the ongoing, loyal support of Norwood Primary School. A school cannot run in isolation and we are truly grateful for this.
Across the school, we have been most impressed by the level of Courage, Growth, Aspiration and Respect being observed. This has taken many forms, both in the classrooms and in social settings and proves that our students can be adaptive and navigate change while upholding our school wide Values. To our staff, both teaching and non-teaching who have enabled our students to shine through instilling these values and importantly modelling these for our students, a sincere thank you. This term has shown us that when we come together with a common purpose, we can make each day of learning count and achieve remarkable outcomes.
Staffing news
I am pleased to announce that Mrs Allira Hayes, our highly skilled Year 2/3 teacher, will be continuing in a fulltime capacity for the remainder of 2022. This will provide our students with continuity and stability in their learning. This is fantastic news for the class!
Mrs Susan Skinner will continue her 0.2 loading on our Year 4 class and will continue to provide us with an extra 0.2 Literacy Support for the remainder of the year.
We welcome back Mrs Lisa McArthur form Long Service Leave into her 0.4 Literacy support role and look forward to this team providing high level skill and expertise into these crucial roles.
School Association
Two weeks ago we held the Annual General Meeting for our School Association. I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the school community, to sincerely thank George Walker and Ben Cunningham who have stepped down from their roles as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the School Association. Ben in particular has been a driving force for the School Association and has served with passion in seeing the best for all in the school community. I would like to announce the new Chairperson for 2022 as Chantel Innes, who has previously been the Treasurer. I would also like to acknowledge Rhiannon Morrison (Deputy Chairperson), Fiona Baker (Secretary) and Rachel Kerrison (Treasurer) for stepping into roles and to those members of the school community, Nicole Moir, Kim Butterworth, Abby Bent, Scott Driessen and Karen Monaghan, who make up the rest of the committee. Congratulations to all involved and we look forward to working together throughout 2022.
Year 5/6 Camp 2022
The Department of Education have released the Managing COVID-19 in Schools Implementation Plan for Term 2 and as suspected, the restriction around overnight camps will continue into Term 2. Unfortunately our Year 5-6 camp is unable to go ahead. We understand how disappointing this is for our students and are investigating alternative experiences for students to participate in throughout the year. We will certainly keep you up to date.
Finally, I would like to wish you all a safe and restful holiday break. A reminder that school returns on Monday the 2nd of May and we look forward to seeing our students returning and flourishing in their learning.
Kind regards, Luke
It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school last week who were deserving recipients of Values Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Congratulations to all recipients.

Exciting News for Term 2
We are very excited that Pre-Kinder will commence weekly from week 2, Term 2 (May 10th and 11th) following DoE Covid safe protocols.
Children who were born in 2018 will receive a letter with their allocated session time and an outline of mandated Covid restrictions. Families will need to RSVP to the school office or on the LiL Facebook page each week as the numbers of people, including children who can attend are strictly limited.
Thank you for your understanding around this and we look forward to meeting you and your child soon!
We would also love to hear from any other families that live in our area and have a child born in 2018. Please contact our school office via phone (6344 2533) or email to add your names to our list.
Norwood Primary School Early Years Team
Thank you
It has been a challenging start to the school year with what LiL programs we have been able to offer. A big thank you to all our families for everyones patience and flexibility around this.
Next term, we will be able to offer both indoor and outdoor LiL sessions. However, indoor sessions will be by invite only as we are restricted as to how many people we can have in a room. I will endeavour, at some stage during Term 2, to give everyone the opportunity to attend a session.
Thanks again for your patience and understanding around this.
Have a wonderful Easter with your families and relaxing and safe break.
Tania Fankhauser
Forest Fun
This week in forest fun we collected natural objects to decorate Easter egg shapes.
Happy Easter everyone and enjoy a restful and safe break with your families. I look forward to seeing everyone in term 2.

We need your help! We desperately need a coordinator for the Mother’s Day Stall. The role of coordinator is very important but not as scary as it may seem. A coordinator does the ordering, organises packing, pricing and volunteers for the day. If you are able to assist please contact us asap at norwoodpsa@gmail.com
The Mother’s Day Stall will be held the first week back at school, we fear without this support we may not be able to run the stall this year.
Also, we would appreciate donations of chocolates, coffee sachets or any other items. Please leave at the school office.
In anticipation for future fundraising please follow the attached link and complete our volunteer survey.
https://norwoodps.schoolzineplus.com/form/27
Term two fundraising is:
Mother’s Day Stall 4th & 5th May
Election Day BBQ 21st May
Please like and share our Facebook page to help keep you updated with all our current activities!
https://www.facebook.com/NorwoodPSSA
All are welcome to attend our meetings, you do not need to commit to be a regular member or attendee, you can also just be a volunteer. If you have any questions or want more information about how you can be involved and have the chance to make a real difference to your school community please contact us at norwoodpsa@gmail.com
Our next meeting will be held Tuesday 10th May, we’d love to see new members of our school community come along. A prize will be given to everyone who brings along a friend!

The presentation will explore the rich educational opportunities at Kings. Grade 7 students are equipped with strong curriculum knowledge and skills, particularly in literacy and numeracy, and explore programs to develop inquiry skills and thinking dispositions in order to excel in learning and life.
Kings’ data-informed academic program also supports students to deepen their understanding and competency in order to apply this to more complex problems and contexts.
Parents/Guardians will also learn how students at Kings develop their information communication technology (ICT) skills, citizenship, ethical learning and leadership skills through exciting leadership opportunities, community service projects via My Education, enrichment course opportunities, extension programs, learning support program, outdoor education experiences, pastoral care and wellbeing support.
To close the event, there will be a Q&A session with our leadership panel.
