March 30th
I would like to sincerely thank our entire Norwood Primary School Community for your support, consideration and adaptability as we juggle the requirements around Covid. This support reinforces and exemplifies our School wide values of Aspiration, Growth, Courage and Respect. As a school the impact of this has been felt, both through student and staff absence. Acquiring relief staff, both teaching and non-teaching, is continuing to be a significant challenge at the moment. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff team who have been incredibly flexible in stepping in to fill the gaps to keep our school operating as ‘normal’ as possible. This allows our students to continue with their learning, every day. Where we have been impacted through outbreaks, this process has been managed efficiently and we are now seeing a steady increase in our attendance.
NAPLAN 2022 - 10/5 – 20/5
As students progress through their school years, it is very important that checks are made along the way to see how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and mathematics – skills that will set them upon the path to success as adults.
NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. Senior Leaders use NAPLAN results to inform school planning and to allocate resources and support including informing decisions around targeted programs and initiatives for individuals and groups.
This year our Grade 3 and 5 students will be participating in the online Australia wide NAPLAN testing from Tuesday, 10th May through till Friday, 20st May. All children in Grades 3 and 5 will complete online tests in the areas of Numeracy, Language Conventions and Reading.
Parent information regarding NAPLAN will be sent out this week. If you have any questions around this please contact the school.
Kind regards, Luke
Thank you to our entire school community for your cooperation this term by practising COVID-safe behaviours.
As you know, an important COVID-safe behaviour is to stay at home if you’re unwell and get tested for COVID-19 using a rapid antigen test.
Public Health tells us that the number of cases of COVID-19 in children is low, and they’re likely to have milder symptoms.
It’s a good reminder to be mindful of the symptoms of COVID-19 in children. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 in children are cough, fever, runny nose and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
For more information, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.
If you need support translating or interpreting this information, please contact the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450.
Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT)
As you use your supply of RATs, please request more RATs at school as needed. If you have run out of school issued RATs, and your child has symptoms, please do not attend school to collect a RAT, we are also unable to allow other people to collect on your behalf – instead contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 to obtain a RAT.
How to use a rapid antigen test video
Public Health has developed a video on how to use a rapid antigen test to support families.
