Norwood Primary Update - March 19th
We have decided to send a small newsletter this week to share some messages and resources in relation to COVID-19 and to also share some positive 'getting on with learning' examples.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to our school community for helping us work through this difficult time.
As part of helping our staff and students ease some ongoing stress the current climate is causing, we would like to have a "Fun Friday". This will involve ......
- Students are asked to wear their own hat for the day....this can be a regular hat they wear outside of school or a fun one. It will, however, need to provide adequate sun protection as the UV rating for tomorrow is still forecast slightly above moderate.
- Class teachers will organise a 'fun' session sometime throughout the day where children will be involved in organised games, activies etc.
Sometimes it's easy to lose awareness of the stress that children can feel from what's going on around them, especially when they are being asked to do things that are a little out of their normal routine, e.g washing hands more regularly for longer, wiping down keyboards etc., and at times, being subjected to the onslaught of the media.
We are attempting to keep school 'business as usual', while carefully following all the current guideline for hygiene and contact safety. We are working hard to provide students with enough information for them to understand health and safety practices, but also not be overly anxious and stressed to the point of not being able to function for learning. Please find below a link for information relating to talking with children about COVID-19.
I hope everyone is keeping safe and well and is understanding and supportive of our decision to do something a little fun tomorrow.
Kind regards,
Karen
This upcoming event has been cancelled, sadly. Mrs Abernethy will ensure that the activities and friendly competition and cooperation will occur in her upcoming physical education lessons. Your child is likely to bring home a certificate of participation in the near future.

Grade 2-3 Y have been looking at how the subject of a photo is in clear focus while the background is blurred. They have painted these beautiful birds to show this effect.
Dear Parents and Friends
I am writing to you in relation to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus and what our school is trying to do to help slow the spread of this virus. Our Association fully endorses the school’s approach of the precautionary practises they are implementing to prevent the spread of the virus and I believe as a community we should support them in their approach.
These are unprecedented times and it is going to put a great deal of pressure on our wonderful staff at school, let’s not forget the great community we have, and it’s in times like this we need to all work together to get the best outcome.
Can I ask that we all come together as a community to support one and other? Please ensure you’re having a discussion at the dinner table tonight about hygiene and why it’s so important with your children. The School Association will be sharing as much information that we can possibly source from the department to help you at home, as will the school.
Most importantly we as a community must come together to support each other, and for the best results we need to support our school staff too.
Yours Sincerely
Ben Cunningham
