Community News
What an amazing evening! A huge thank you to the committee who worked tirelessly to put the night together. Thank you also to all staff who attended, many bringing their families with them. Thank you to all our families and community who attended, the number of people was wonderful to see. The Norwood community spirit well and truly shone out in an atmosphere of friendliness and excitement. The money raised from the evening will go towards the upgrading of our Early Childhood playgrounds and with over $4000 in profit from the night we are off to a great start!

The Student Parliament would like students to wear pyjamas, or some form of sleeping attire, to school tomorrow,Thursday 27th June. A gold coin donation will be passed on to Mission Australia who are aiming to end homelessness.
The pyjamas will be an addititon to the normal school uniform and we do need students to wear sensible shoes for outdoor play and to be warm at this time of year.
In the year 1/2 classes this term, students have been learning about the function and features of different non-fiction texts. They have read, viewed and written a variety of non-fiction texts, for example, information texts, recipes and instructions. In 1-2 Y, in addition to reading instructional texts, we viewed a range of audio-visual, how to draw texts and followed the step by step instructions to create three eyed monsters and pandas that transform from cute to scary. These are some of our drawings.

Sharing
We had a sharing time in Kinder. Our families came along to watch 2 slideshows featuring some of our learning. We also took time to share our Celebration of Learning Books. Thank you to the 58 children and family members who attended. Thank you to our grade 5 buddies who helped host our family time.
Did you know about the monsters?
We learnt a song about monsters and we created our own masks before trekking through the school.
Did you know there were monsters sitting in the staffroom….? Really!
Did you know there were monsters in the office? Poor Mrs Birch!
Did you know there were monsters in the playground? Unbelievable!
Did you know there were monsters stomping in the hallways. Oh no!

Just a reminder that Student Levies and Esk Band Fees are due for payment. These invoices can be paid a number of ways including Cash or Credit Card at the school, via Bpay or at Service Tasmania. If you are unable to pay in full we are able to make arrangements for part payments (please contact Nicole at the School Office to discuss) which can be paid via the above methods or direct debited from your Centrelink payments - forms are available from the school.
The Esk Music Program is in full swing this term at Norwood Primary. Every Friday students in the program come together to develop their instrumental skills and learn to play some great songs.
The beginning students are showing tremendous improvement in their skills. Most students are now comfortable with their finger positions and can play their first 5 notes. Favourite pieces for the beginner band include Hot Cross Buns, Power Rock and Bandroom Boogie. They are also starting to learn The Banana Boat Song.
The continuing players are playing well as a primary school band. They are rehearsing a range of songs including Atlantis, Mah-Na Mah-Na, Shake Rattle and Roll and A Time To Dance.

On Tuesday 25th June, thirty-one of our 3-6 students spent the day at Symmons Plains Raceway competing in the All Schools State Primary Cross Country. Excitement was high within the group on the bus trip out to what was expected to be a very cold track. Luckily for all involved, particularly Mr Jones, the weather was much better than expected, allowing for students to participate to the best of their ability on a reasonably dry track.
With around 50 schools in attendance and about 200 students in each race, organised chaos reigned throughout the day. With so many students in each race, determining a finishing position was hard. The best position on the day was Riley H finishing in 8th place in the Grade 6 Boys Race. Official results and positions will become available in the coming days.
All students enjoyed the challenge and experience of competing in such a large event. The enthusiasm of students cheering on their fellow Norwood runners was great to see and an excellent advertisement for Norwood Primary School. Thanks to those parents who came along to support our runners.

Norwood Winter Festival
The Organising committee would like to say a big thank you to the Norwood community and our school for getting behind our Norwood Winter Festival. We raised $4127 and are well and truly on the way to our $10,000 goal.
We would especially like to say thank you to all our food vendors who were a bit taken by surprise Afghan Bolani, Coffee Buzz, Kick Snare, Lighthouse Dumplings, Mr Whippy and Green Bean Wood fired Pizzas.
A big shout out to Brendan Turriff (one of our Dads) and The Brown Chords, did anyone recognise the drummer? Please make sure you thank Mark our Crossing Guard.
Thank you to all the stall holders who all came along and supported us, it was a very busy hall and I know some of them never got a break!
Our lights and generators were kindly donated for the night, if you need to hire any equipment please support Coates Hire, Tamar Hire and Specialist Access Equipment Georgetown.
We could never put on an event of this size without volunteers and we were overwhelmed with the support of the teaching staff, The year 6 students, School Association members and their families! A really big thank you to the steering committee. The team have worked tirelessly for the past 4 months. Volunteering is one of the most rewarding things you can do and we really enjoy ourselves, all the positive feedback was just fantastic and much appreciated! We have had offers from several more food vendors and we will be looking into this next time if you would like another one?
Congratulations Everyone... Regards Ben Cunningham School Association Chair.
