Cross Country
A huge congratulations this week to our LSSSA Cross Country team. Winning 5 out of 8 age groups Norwood Primary School placed 1st overall in the B division event. A representative team will be travelling to Symons Plains on Tuesday 25th of June to compete in the state championships.
Reports
Our mid-year reports will be sent home on Friday 21st of June. Teachers have spent many hours writing and editing reports and I would like to thank them for their hard work and the quality of what they have written. Parent teacher interviews are being held the following week with all families encouraged to come and speak with your child’s teacher. Please remember to make a booking.
Emotional Regulation
During this term as a whole school we have had a focus on emotional regulation. Staff have been undertaking Professional Learning around trauma and self-regulation and Dr Jane Foster has been working with students and teachers across the school, further unpacking the language of MyTERN. Our work will continue throughout the year with the aim to further embed Restorative Practice and Respectful Behaviour across our school.
Uniform
As the winter weather has arrived we are seeing an increase in students wearing jumpers and other items which are not part of our uniform. Our uniform policy is that school jumpers are worn with additional coats or layers able to be worn outside on cold days. Coats are required to be removed inside as all classrooms have adequate heating and are at an optimal temperature for learning. We very much appreciate our parent support around our students wearing their uniform and would also appreciate a ‘winter reminder’ at home.
Winterfest
A huge thank you this week to our hard working Winterfest team. The work which goes into organizing such an event takes many hours of co-ordination and effort. Thank you! We are looking forward to June 21st!

Last Friday morning, 40 of Norwood Primary School’s best distance runners made their way to Waverley Primary School for the LSSSA Division B Cross Country. The Grade 3-6 athletes were greeted with cold temperatures but blue skies. After completing a warm up and course familiarisation run with Mr Humphrey the anticipation of racing increased.
Racing started with Grade 3 girls with plenty of excitement. Ella B started our great individual performances off with an excellent run and 2nd place, with Claire R (4th) and Lily D (6th) not far behind. A great start for Norwood! Top 5 finishes would be a regular occurrence throughout the day with Charlie B (1st), Ava E (3rd), Holly D (5th), Tom M (3rd), Casey N (4th), Brad W (5th) and Riley H (1st – by 50m) all completing strong runs. All runners were supported throughout the day with team spirit high with plenty of ‘Let’s go Norwood’ chants being heard around the Waverley area. The support from a large number of parents and family members was also very appreciated by all.
Excellent team performances from all of our runners ensured that we collected 5 of the 8 available team shields. Special congratulations to our grade 3 boys, grade 4 girls, grade 5 boys, grade 6 girls and boys for winning their team events. While individual performances help, the excellent team work and resilience from all of our runners made this achievement possible. This all added up to Norwood winning the Division B Carnival on 271 points, almost 50 points ahead of the next best school! Well done Norwood!
Ben Humphrey
Most members of the successful Norwood Primary 'B' Division Cross Country teams have been invited to run in the All Schools event on Tuesday 25th June. Permission forms have been sent home and need to be returned by Monday 17th June.
The event is a state selection event and will be a serious challenge for athletes. Grade 3 and 4 compete over 2km and grade 5 and 6 compete over 3 km. Norwood will cover the entry costs this year. The website with all the information is www.tasathletics.org.au
Students will require running gear, warm clothing (even a warm blanket), a quiet activity (eg. book) and plenty of food and a big drink of water. Students will be provided with a school top. We will be off-site from approx. 10:00am till 2:30pm. Transport to and from the venue will be provided.
Medication Reminders
- If your child requires ‘over the counter’ medication at school you must sign a parent permission form (Form A).
- If your child requires prescribed medication (eg. antibiotics) you must have an ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation’ (Form B) completed by a doctor, pharmacist or practice nurse and a parent permission form (Form A).
- All medication must be handed into the school office in the original packaging. Students can only have their asthma medication in their bags.
Letters have been sent home to the families of children who have medication at school.
Please Note: All medical action plans (eg. asthma plans, allergy plans) need to updated yearly.
Just a reminder to parents and carers that Norwood Primary School is an allergy awareness school. Please do not send any food to school that contains nuts or nut products. Thank you.
