Community News
Dear NPS Families
It has been a busy and exciting fortnight at Norwood. Alongside the engaging teaching and learning in classrooms, there has been the LSSSA Cross Country, State Cross Country, Fire Safety with Firefighter Aaron, and last but certainly not least Norwood’s Winterfest.
Winterfest was a huge success last Friday night, with an opportunity for the community to come together and share in the fun and excitement. It was my first opportunity to experience Winterfest, and I was very impressed with the variety of experiences on offer from rides, market stalls, food vans and fabulous live music. Events like this do not happen without large amounts of support from our school community and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the main organisers of the event, Ben Cunningham, Phillipa Simmons, Sarah Groat, Maddy Webb and Chantal Innes. A special mention also to Nicole, Janine and Anna in the office who supported the committee to organise the event with all the little “bits and pieces”. Thank you to the volunteers on the day and night that worked tirelessly to set up, sell raffle tickets, and clean and tidy as the event progressed. Thank you to all the sponsors and businesses that donated to the evening to ensure it was a success.
Thank you also to the Band (The Brown Cords) and Andrew Lamb and our 3-6 Choir who kicked off the celebrations.
Last Friday you would have received your child’s report outlining their approach to learning and ratings against the Australian Curriculum (for Grade 1-6). This week it has been a pleasure to welcome our families into the school for Parent Teacher Interviews. This is an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress and for teachers to share with you Evidence of Learning. We highly value the learning partnership between home and school and if you haven’t booked in a time to speak with your child’s teacher, then please contact the school office.
Kind regards,
Jess Bennett | Acting Principal

It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school last week, who were deserving recipients of Values Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Congratulations to all recipients.

This term the class has investigated Living and Non-living Things. These are some of the Tri-ramus designed to support our living thing.

We have also focused on Capital Letters, talking about where we need to use capital letters and their importance in our writing. Everyone created a Letter Person as a celebration of learning for this unit of work.

In 5/6 Secker, we have been scientists exploring our place in space.
We have been posing questions and researching the Earth's tilt and orbit, and how these factors connect to the seasons, as well as night and day.
Did you know Earth's tilt is 23.5 degrees and we are on a tilt because something the size of Mars knocked into Earth placing us on a tilt?
We are very proud of the hard work we put into this learning this term!

Over the past 2 weeks we were pushed to our limits making the fastest cardboard formula 1 car we could. The cars were made of extra thick card, which is thicker than normal cardboard paper. They were difficult to make, but we managed to succeed. it was very exciting figuring out how it worked and how to put them together!
We raced our cars on Thursday 5th June with the help of students and Mr Clark from Queechy High School. Thankfully they helped us put the wheels on our cars properly. We had a fantastic time watching them all race, with most going down the 20 metre track in less than 2.5 seconds!

A team of 50 Grade 3-6 students have represented Norwood at the LSSSA and State All Schools Cross Country. At the LSSSA Division 1, Norwood came second overall. At the carnivals we have seen persistence, courage, and resilience as students pushed themselves and each other to give their best effort. Our team should be proud of the sportsmanship they demonstrated.

Yesterday, was the All Schools Cross Country Carnival at Symmons Plains. We had 46 young athletes participate in the event and there were 200 plus students from all over the state per race.
As always, the encouragement of our NPS students was excellent.
Special congratulations to Chloe A on finishing in 4th place in her event – what an amazing achievement!
Well done to all our NPS Team!

What a wonderful turn up to our 2025 Winterfest. Congratulations and a huge thank you to our organising committee and to all our volunteers helping to make this event successful!

We had the pleasure of inviting, Hayley, from RACT to discuss road safety with our younger students for another year. Hayley specifically discussed crossing the road safely. The children learnt about safe places to cross and when to use traffic lights/ pedestrian crossings and school crossings. She also reminded the children of the motto, stop, look, listen and think, before crossing the road.

If your child requires ‘over the counter’ medication at school you must sign a parent permission form.
If your child requires prescribed medication (eg. antibiotics) you must have an ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation’ completed by a doctor, pharmacist or practice nurse. These forms are available at the school office or from the Department for Education, Children and Young People website.
All medication must be handed into the school office in the original packaging. Students can only have their asthma medication in their bags.
If your child has Asthma and requires Asthma medication (eg. Ventolin) at school we will need an Asthma Action Plan signed by a doctor and parent as well as an ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation’ completed by a doctor, pharmacist or practice nurse. These must be updated annually.
Please ask at the School Office if you have any questions.
