Dear NPS Families
What a wonderful start to term 4 we have had. Students and staff are certainly enjoying the sunny days.
I am writing this on my return from the Riverside Pool where our 3-6 students have participated in our annual swimming carnival. I am extremely proud of the high level of participation and 'spot on' behaviour throughout this event. Check out our Facebook page for celebration photos and results.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal

On Monday morning our ECE classes had at their Olympic Themed Tabloid Sports Carnival. Thank you Mr Humphrey, NPS Sports Leaders an our K-2 teachers for this wonderful experience.
On Tuesday, students in grades 3-6 participated in the annual Peace Pole Ceremony. This ceremony is to recognise the importance of peace throughout, not just the world, but in school and within. Sonia Smith from the Launceston Rotary Club shared the International Day of Peace message from the Secretary General of the United Nations. Congratulations to the Student Leaders who did an excellent job hosting the ceremony.
Last Friday 6 teams of 3 participated in the Tasmanian F1 In Schools Competition at the Tailrace Centre. This competition involved students designing a miniature F1 car from scratch using engineer software and then, with the help of Queechy High School, milling the car from balsa wood. The students then had to putty and sand the car multiple times before painting and sealing the car.
Once at the competition, the cars were put under rigorous checking to ensure that they were legal and ready to race.
Our students had a very successful day, with Ava, Briah and Ellie of team Storm Surge creating the fastest car, travelling down the 20 metre track in 1.113 seconds. They won overall on the day and are now the Cadet State Champions. Congratulations also to Seb, Elise and Henry, who finished 2nd with the team IL Mostro. Finally Zach, Zara and Ryan came third with their car La Tempesta.
A special thank you to our car sponsors, Will Trade Tasmania, Simmons Marine Services Tasmania, Collective Consulting, BC Chiropractor, Temtrol and Exceed Engineering.
The cars and posters will be displayed in the corridor for the next couple of weeks for anyone who is interested in viewing them.
Wednesday 20th November
Transitioning from primary to high school is a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but it can also be challenging or worrying for many students and their families. Norwood Primary School are fortunate to be able to collaborate with local high schools in order to make this process a smooth one. Coming up on Wednesday 20th November is an all-day Orientation Day being held at all Government schools. This day is structured to follow a normal high school timetable, enabling students to have an experience of what this will be like in 2025. Information for this day has already been sent home.
Our local schools are aiming to assist students and their families by making sure every child is prepared and feels supported in their choice for high school learning in 2025. Over the coming weeks before Orientation Day, identified students will be taking part in some extra transition activities. The purpose of these experiences is to expose students to high school life and the opportunity to visit the campus and be introduced to both staff and students at the school. The goal of a successful transition program is to increase student's connectedness to their Year 7 high school, whilst fostering engagement through introductory experiences.
PLEASE NOTE - Students do not attend NPS at all on this day. Parent/Guardians are responsible to transport their own child/ren to and from the High School
Thank you to those families who have contacted the school with information/requests for 2025 classes. Planning for 2025 classes will be commencing soon.
If your child will not be returning to Norwood Primary School next year please advise via email norwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au ASAP.
