Community News
Dear NPS Families
I would like to start off this week, by sending a huge thank you to our School Association for their continued work to raise funds to support ongoing improvements to Norwood PS.
The re-surfaced courts between the STEM room and the Hall look amazing and have certainly been well-received by students. When there is a break in the rain, so that the surface surrounding the new soccer goals dries out sufficiently, turf will be placed in a semi-circle at each goal structure to make these more usable during winter...once again, thanks to the School Association and each of our families who support this work.
Entrance Cable
This week the Cable Gate will be installed at the entrance of the school and will be up from 8:00am onwards. Whilst we understand that this may be inconvenient for some people, it is essential that we put the safety of our students first. All previous requests via email to limit the traffic coming into the school at drop off and pick up time have not been successful, therefore we needed to take alternative action for the safety of our students.
If you need to enter the school during school hours to drop off large items, collect unwell children, etc. please contact the office and they will lower the cable for you.
Working with Vulnerable People Check & Safeguarding Training
It has been wonderful to see an increase in the amount of family members volunteering their time to support student and also the work of the School Association. If you would like to volunteer and haven't already completed the WWVP check or Safeguarding Training simply click on the links below and follow the prompts.
Apply for registration to work with vulnerable people (cbos.tas.gov.au)

Karen Monaghan| Principal

Next week, we will be celebrating one of our favourite events – Book Week!
The theme for this year is ‘Reading is Magic’ and we will have various events and activities planned to celebrate the magic of reading.
Tuesday 20th August will be our Book Week dress-up and parade day. Families are welcome to view the parade, which will run from 9:10am-9:40am. There will be a designated viewing area for this (TBC).
We encourage all members of our school to get into the spirit of Book Week by dressing up as a character from a favourite book or a character that represents the theme. Effective costumes can be created with clever and creative thinking, so please don’t feel obliged to purchase items for the event.
Norwood staff will be putting a creative spin on a common dress up theme this year, and will be encouraging students to see where, w, w, where, w, w, where we are! (Can you guess who we’ll be, from that clue?)
Value Certificate Recipients
It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school in last weeks assembly, who were deserving recipients of Values Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Congratulations to all recipients.

Kinder B
Kinder Fankhauser have been busy learning about the changes that come with winter. We have been inquirers by observing what happens to the environment and the type of activities, food and clothes we wear during this season. We hope you enjoy our winter art!
3/4A
3/4 Trotman have also been busy capturing the magic and feels of the winter season.
We have learnt that winter in Australia lasts from June 1 to August 31, placing itself between autumn and the upcoming spring. Australian winters are known for their cooler temperatures and shorter daylight hours.
Congratulations to the following students who participated in the Australian Maths Competition. We look forward to hearing how they went in the coming weeks.

From tomorrow we will be changing the way we notify Parents/Guardians about minor head bumps, instead of calling we will be sending an SMS. Please note this will only be for minor bumps for any significant bumps or injuries we will continue to call. Please make sure we have your current phone number on file.
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Years 4, 5 and 6 at Norwood Primary School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
A letter with more information will be sent home for all Year 4, 5 and 6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey. If you would like further information, please contact the school.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
Year 6 Transition 2024-2025
Transitioning from primary to high school is a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but it can also be challenging or worrying for many students and their families. Norwood Primary School are fortunate to be able to collaborate with local high schools in order to make this process a smooth one. Our local schools are aiming to assist students and their families by making sure every child is prepared and feels supported in their choice for high school learning in 2025.
Coming up this term we have experiences available for those students who will be attending Queechy High School and Kings Meadows High School, plus those students who are still unsure. The purpose of both of these experiences is to increase students connectedness to their year 7 high school, whilst fostering engagement through introductory experiences.
QHS
An Orienteering type activity for students will be held on Wednesday 4th September. These opportunities will allow our students to view the facilities and meet the year 7 staff. There will be further information coming home for those students transitioning to QHS, please keep an eye out.
KMHS
KMHS have been working with the year 7 Transition Leaders to design a Mini Expo about life at High School that will be presented at NPS. This Expo style session will be held in week 6 this term. This involves KMHS Year 7 Transition leaders and teachers coming to NPS to set up a ‘speed dating’ style mini expo so that year 6 students can learn more about KMHS.
