July 31st
Dear NPS Families
We understand that there are a few nasty bugs going around at present that are keeping children away from school. Please remember to let the office know of absences either by phone or text so that the absence is recorded correctly in our system, importantly that we know that your child is not meant to be at school.
External School Review (ESR)
As part of our focus on continuous school improvement, we will be involved in an External School Review this year.
The purpose of External School Reviews is to support schools to raise achievement, sustain high performance and provide quality assurance to build public confidence in government schools. All Tasmanian Government Schools will be externally reviewed every four years. The focus of the Review is to evaluate school performance.
The Review Team consists of an External School Review Leader and trained Principal Peer Reviewers. The review will occur on Monday 12th - Thurday 15th August.
We will find out the effective school practices that have been verified through the Review processes as well as the improvements that we need to make in the future.
During the External School Review some students, families, School Association members and staff will be asked to provide information to the Review Team in a number of ways. These include:
- individual interviews (can include family phone calls)
- group discussions (with students or staff or families)
- meetings (usually School Association, staff meeting)
- visits into classrooms.
We appreciate your support and time in helping us with this External School Review process. We will be in contact via email with some familes from each year level to ask for your willingness to participate. We will also be sending home permission forms for some students who have been identified to speak with the team.
If you would like more information please contact the school office and they will pass on a message to the leadership team to make contact with you.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal

In Week 5 of this term, we will be celebrating one of our favourite events – Book Week!
The theme for this year is ‘Reading is Magic’ and we will have various events and activities planned to celebrate the magic of reading.
Tuesday 20th August will be our Book Week dress-up and parade day. Families are welcome to view the parade, which will run from 9:10am-9:40am. There will be a designated viewing area for this (TBC).
We encourage all members of our school to get into the spirit of Book Week by dressing up as a character from a favourite book or a character that represents the theme. Effective costumes can be created with clever and creative thinking, so please don’t feel obliged to purchase items for the event.
Norwood staff will be putting a creative spin on a common dress up theme this year, and will be encouraging students to see where, w, w, where, w, w, where we are! (Can you guess who we’ll be, from that clue?)
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Years 4, 5 and 6 at Norwood Primary School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
A letter with more information will be sent home for all Year 4, 5 and 6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey. If you would like further information, please contact the school.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
Year 6 Transition 2024-2025
Transitioning from primary to high school is a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but it can also be challenging or worrying for many students and their families. Norwood Primary School are fortunate to be able to collaborate with local high schools in order to make this process a smooth one. Our local schools are aiming to assist students and their families by making sure every child is prepared and feels supported in their choice for high school learning in 2025.
Coming up this term we have experiences available for those students who will be attending Queechy High School and Kings Meadows High School, plus those students who are still unsure. The purpose of both of these experiences is to increase students connectedness to their year 7 high school, whilst fostering engagement through introductory experiences.
QHS
Year 6 students will experience a sample STEM activity on Wednesday 14th August and an Orienteering type activity on Wednesday 4th September. These opportunities will allow our students to view the facilities and meet the year 7 staff. There will be further information coming home for those students transitioning to QHS, please keep an eye out.
KMHS
KMHS have been working with the year 7 Transition Leaders to design a Mini Expo about life at High School that will be presented at NPS. This Expo style session will be held in week 6 this term. This involves KMHS Year 7 Transition leaders and teachers coming to NPS to set up a ‘speed dating’ style mini expo so that year 6 students can learn more about KMHS.

Prep B
We are busy learning and playing in Prep B. Look at our room! We have been painting winter pictures, making snowflakes for our windows, painting the story of the rainbow serpent for NAIDOC week, measuring everybody's height in maths and making jellyfish for 'friends of 10' in maths. We are proud of our learning and our class!
