It's Cross Country Week!
Some of our Kindergarten children had a wonderful time on Monday afternoon participating in their Cross Country Event. Well done to all of them on a top effort!
This Friday the remainder of our students will participate in the NPS annual Cross Country. Students have been practising for this over the past few weeks to prepare for the big day. A few important things to know for this event are....
- House colours can be worn but please ensure that appropriate running clothes are worn. Singlet tops only over t-shirts please.
- Students may like to use a bit of face paint or wash out hair colour to help their applicable House colour stand out.
- Correct running footwear is essential.
Family members are welcome to come and support this event. Students love to have family and friends watching and cheering them on. Space on the top oval will be allocated.
Unfortunately, I have a Principal's Conference to attend at the end of this week and will therefore miss being there in person. I look forward to seeing photos and hearing all about the day. I wonder which House will get the top points.
Please remind children that there are House Points for participation so no matter where you come over the finish, just participating will not only be lots of fun, but will give your House Team valuable points!
Uniform
Now that the weather is getting colder, please ensure that children are bringing their jackets and/or jumpers to school with them.... our body and mind do not work as well when exposed to being cold for too long.
The link below will open the current NPS Uniform Policy which also includes a Dress Code with information about jewellery etc.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal

1-2 D have been learning about living and non-living things. As part of this inquiry, students were asked to think about, then write and draw what living things need to survive. Students discovered that living things can be plants and animals. The four main things that they need to survive and continue to grow are: food, water, shelter and air.
In 5-6 A we have been diving into the world of morphology. We are learning about word origins, prefixes and suffixes, and discussing how we can use this to improve our reading and writing.
We have also been unpacking the Department Value of Responsibility. We identified actions that were student responsibilities in both the classroom and playground and discussed the flow on effects of each. What might happen if we don’t follow up on our responsibilities? What might happen if we do? From this, we have started having a weekly responsibility focus. This week, it is getting ready to we can begin our learning tasks quickly.
Our literacy focus this term is persuasive texts. We have been using Greta Thunberg’s speech from the 2019 Climate Summit as our mentor text and have been examining the techniques she used to try and get the world listening! As part of the knowledge building phase of this unit, we watched Greta’s speech many times, read articles on climate change and completed some artwork around the theme of deforestation.
Stay tuned for some convincing persuasive texts later this term!
On Friday 10th May, some of our talented young athletes from Grade 3-6 participated in the State Primary Schools Athletics Carnival at the St Leonards Athletic Centre. This was based on their excellent performances in both NPS and LSSSA carnivals last term. A huge congratulations to all these students and special mention to Chloe A who took home 1st place for both the 200m and 400m events!
