May 8th
Dear Families,
Welcome to our first Newsletter for Term 2.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to our small group of students and family members who were able to join us for the ANZAC Day Parade and Service. It was wonderful to have Norwood PS represented and a privilege to accompany the group on the day.
CAR PARK
You may have noticed that the chain is now over the school car park at the beginning of the school day. The congestion in this area of a morning was becoming very unsafe for our students and the risk for injury has led us to take action to limit the cars entering. Arrangements have been made with families needing to use disability parking. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
ASSEMBLIES
Congratulations to all our recipients of awards and Aussie's of the Month for March on the last day of Term 1. Also, to our newly appointed Student Parliament Representatives who were presented with their badges. We had our first meeting yesterday, and I look forward to continuing to work with this group throughout the year.
We have almost been able to organise all assembly dates for the remainder of the year. Dates and times for these will be published in our next newsletter. We will continue to send out invitations to parents/carers of students receiving awards, but we also extend a general invitation to any families who would like to join us on the day. Please be aware assemblies can get a bit crowded, so this may mean there is only standing room available for some.
See below for list of all recipients from our last assembly.
Aussie of the Month for March - Kaashi S & Patrick G
Whilst it's been wonderful that the sunny days have continued, it is becoming quite cool in the mornings so please remind your children to pop a jumper or jacket in their bag.
Kind regards,

In 1/2C science, we have spent a lot of time observing different materials and how they can be manipulated. We have been thinkers, collaborators and researchers!
We had lots of fun exploring how we can physically change materials by squeezing, pulling, twisting, ripping and folding, as well as what we can do to make them stronger and how they can be weakened. We also looked at chemical changes and how these effect different materials.
Some of the activities we have enjoyed have been; making paper planes, making ball runs out of playdough, weaving baskets, designing boats that are required to float and recycling old crayons to make new ones.
What a fantastic Term 1 and start to Term 2 it's been for Grade 3/4 C! Here are some of our standout moments:
- We celebrated Harmony Day and had a blast at the Colour Run.
- Embraced Seesaw for learning and perfected persuasive writing.
- Read and enjoyed Gangsta Granny by David Walliams
- Explored the significance of poppies for Anzac Day, creating our own artwork.
- Dived into a mini inquiry "How can we be scientists?" followed by creating "Mad Scientist" art with enthusiasm.
We have enjoyed 2024 so far and can't wait for more exciting adventures ahead! Here are some of our artwork to share with you.
Book Club Issue 3 2024
Students will receive the Issue 3 of Book Club this week. All orders for Book Club need to be submitted ONLINE by Parents.
Orders for Issue 3 will close on Thursday 16h May at 9:00am 2024.
Thank you so much from the School Association to all those families in our school community who donated amazing gifts, plants, chocolates and coffee sachets to our Mother's Day Stall this year. A special shout out to the Norwood Store who have donated treats to sell for Mother's Day, we do really appreciate it.
Thank you to all those amazing volunteers who helped pack and price gifts, who have helped set up and who will be volunteering at the stall days. A special mention and thank you to Sarah Groat for coordinating the stall this year.
We really appreciate everyone's help and donations.
We hope the children have a great time shopping and picking gifts for their Mothers, Nans or special people in their lives.
From the whole Norwood School Association, we would like to wish you a beautiful day on Sunday.
Year 6 Transition 2024-2025
Transitioning from primary to high school is a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but it can also be challenging or worrying for many students and their families. Norwood Primary School are fortunate to be able to collaborate with local high schools in order to make this process a smooth one. Our local schools are aiming to assist students and their families by making sure every child is prepared and feels supported in their choice for high school learning in 2025.
Coming up later this Term we have experiences available for those students who will be attending Queechy High School and Kings Meadows High School, plus those students who are still unsure. The purpose of both of these experiences is to increase students connectedness to their Year 7 high school, whilst fostering engagement through introductory experiences.
There will be more information to come around these sessions.
The workshops are developed by psychologist Michael Hawton (Parent Shop) and equips parents with:
- a basic understanding of how anxiety develops and functions.
- an understanding of the problem of increasing levels of anxiety in children and some strategies for its treatment.
- some modest skills which can be applied to anxious thinking and anxious behaviour to help a child to develop more adaptive ways to cope with adversity.
HOW: The program will be delivered over 3 X 1 hour sessions. No cost.
WHERE: Queechy High School
WHEN: Thursday 4.00 – 5.00pm OR 7.00 – 8.00pm Dates to be confirmed.
Please register you interest by either completing the attached form or contacting the Queechy School office. Places in the workshops are limited.
