Dear Families
Firstly, my apologies for the late publication of this fortnight's newsletter.
It was wonderful to have so many of our Norwood PS families attend the recent welcome BBQ. This was a great time to meet new people and also to have a relaxing chat with staff outside of the busyness of the drop and pick up. I hope an enjoyable time was had by all attendees.
Thank you very much to our School Association committee for your ongoing support in organising and running these events as it would be incredibly hard to run such things without this support. Thank you also to all the volunteers who helped with the BBQ cooking and serving.
Last week we held the first year 1-6 assembly for a long time. It was very exciting to get back to having our young and senior students together for this award assembly. This will continue throughout the year and all families of award recipients and students presenters will receive invitations the week prior to come along and join us.
We have a few things coming up over the second half of this term such as the 3-6 Athletic Carnival, School Photos, Excursions etc. so please continue to read through this newsletter and watch out for emails, texts, and/or notes in bags in relation to school events.
The first half of this term has been a very settled experience for both students and staff with lots of very focussed learning taking place. I look forward to this continuing as we move through the 2024 school year.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal

3/4A have been very artistic drawing their own portraits. This activity gives classmates a clear understanding of all the wonderful things that makes you, you. This is how we make a connection and create a sense of class belonging.
Prep B have been making connections to home and school. These are our holiday paintings.
Value Certificate Recipients
It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school last week, who were deserving recipients of Values Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Congratulations to all recipients.

Date: Monday, 18th March
Time: 9:30am-2:45pm
Venue: Northern Athletics Centre (St Leonards)
The Primary Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 18th March at the Northern (St Leonards) Athletic Centre (rain day 21st March). This is our first sporting carnival of the year and the first opportunity to display house spirit, determination and resilience in a sporting context. Students are preparing in PE lessons for this carnival.
To ensure a smooth start to the day, students will need to present at school by 8:55am, to allow prompt departure of buses. We are aiming to start the carnival by 9:40am. All students need to ensure they are wearing their sports uniform, hats, have plenty of food, bring a large drink bottle and sunscreen. All students will be under the shade of gazebos when not participating in events. Students are also encouraged to support their house by wearing ribbons, tops, zinc cream etc. of their house colours.
Wattle: Blue Waratah: Red Banksia: Green
Students with asthma are reminded to bring their puffers for the day.
All students are expected to attend and participate in multiple events. Spectators are welcome to attend but will be asked to stay away from students as much as possible and will have a designated viewing area. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell.
Students who are away for any reason may still be selected to represent NPS in the LSSSA Athletics Carnival, based on times/distances recorded at school. This will be held on Wednesday 27th March also at the Northern Athletics Centre (St Leonards). It is important that students who are unwell stay home.

Hello and welcome to the new school year! I hope that everyone is settling in well.
For those that are new to the School, I am Nurse Bri, the School Health Nurse here at Norwood Primary. I work here every Monday throughout school terms from 9am-5pm.
My role involves lots of health promotion and education. I do this by delivering class lessons, working with small groups, and individual referrals.
This term, I will be spending time with Kinder students to learn about toilet hygiene and sequence, hand hygiene with prep students, oral hygiene with grades 1-2, and sleep hygiene with grades 3-6.
I also complete Kinder Health Checks throughout the year, and have received lots of consent forms back already – thank you!
If you have vision, hearing or health concerns for your child, please don’t hesitate to contact me through the school office or via email. I would love to hear from you!
Warm regards,
Nurse Bri
