Kindergarten 2024
Dear Families
It has been great to see our students return from Term 3 break rested and ready for the final term of 2023.
With the warmer weather emerging we are conscious of the impact on food within lunch boxes. Bacteria can build in prepared food overtime as it gets warm so, please be sure to include an ice block with your child’s food packs.
Turning up matters
We all want the best for our children – for their futures to be as bright as possible. Showing up every day to school really matters. It gives your child every chance to learn, grow and find their interests.
This last stretch of the school year can sometimes be tricky. Keep it up, because each day is another chance to:
- be around friends
- learn new things
- find interests
- create dream futures (whatever that may be!).
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please always talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help.
Tell Someone
All children in Tasmania have a right to be known, safe, well and learning. We are highly committed to the safety of all students at our school.
Earlier this month, DECYP launched the Tell Someone initiative, to raise awareness in the community about child sexual abuse and grooming.
The Tell Someone website gives children and young people clear advice on what to do in situations where they feel worried, unsafe or unsure. It also gives adults advice and support on how to respond if they suspect or know a child is being groomed or sexually abused or is at risk of harm.
Please visit the website, read the information, and try to find a suitable time to talk with your children about this issue and the resources available. It’s important that you both understand the possible signs of sexual abuse or grooming behaviour, and how to stay safe online and offline.
If reading this information has caused you distress, please visit DECYP’s website for a list of support services.
Please contact the school if you have any questions about this information.
2024 Organisation
The planning and organisation that goes into setting up NPS for success in 2024 has already begun. It would be greatly appreciated if you could tell us now if you know that your child/ren will not be attending Norwood Primary School next year as student numbers influence configuration of classes and the staffing and resource allocations. If you are aware of families who live in our area and who intend to enrol with us for 2024, can you please encourage them to contact the school. Thanks in advance for your understanding and assistance with this.
I also welcome families to send any information for class placement via the school email norwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au. Please be aware that requests need to be aligned to the educational needs of your child, requests for particular teachers will not be considered. All requests will need to be in by Friday 3rd November.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal

Courage Certificate Recipients
It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school in the last week of Term 3, who were deserving recipients of Courage Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who are consistently displaying and modelling the value of Courage throughout our school. Congratulations to all recipients on being a positive role model to your peers.

Growth
Classes throughout our school are working incredibly hard to unpack our value of Growth and what it means for them. This will continue to be an explicit teaching focus for us during Term 4.
What does Growth look like at Norwood Primary School?
- looking for opportunities to develop a new skill or learning concept
- learning from experiences, mistakes and challenges
- Encouraging all to make positive choices and do their best
- Listening to, accepting and acting on feedback
- Asking questions
- Never giving up.
Living the value of Growth means that we are focused on the process of learning, and we continually look for opportunities to improve. By embedding this value in the culture of our school, we model the behaviours we encourage in our learners.
As part of the celebration of our Values, we will be awarding those students who have consistently displayed and modelled the Growth behaviours of our Expected Student Behaviour. Students who are recognised for displaying Growth, will be presented with a Growth badge, which they can wear every day. These badges will be presented to students in assemblies later this Term. For parents/guardians of these students, please keep an eye out for an invitation to be a part of this assembly to recognise those students who go above and beyond.

If your child requires ‘over the counter’ medication at school you must sign a parent permission form.
If your child requires prescribed medication (eg. antibiotics) you must have an ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation’ completed by a doctor, pharmacist or practice nurse. These forms are available at the school office or from the Department for Education, Children and Young People website.
All medication must be handed into the school office in the original packaging. Students can only have their asthma medication in their bags.
If your child has Asthma and requires Asthma medication (eg. Ventolin) at school we will need an Asthma Action Plan signed by a doctor and parent as well as an ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation’ completed by a doctor, pharmacist or practice nurse. These must be updated annually.
Please ask at the School Office if you have any questions.
All the best to Baxter and Dougie Manshanden who are participating in the AusCycling National Championships in Shepparton next week. Good luck Baxter and Dougie!
