Community News
Dear Families
Welcome to our last NPS newsletter for term 3.
Tomorrow we will be hosting our annual DISCO for our P -6 students with the incredible Disco Dan!
This is a much anticipated yearly event by students and is designed to celebrate and have some fun, therefore we ask that all students follow all expectations for arrival, time on site and depature of this event. Students attending the after-school time sessions will not be permitted out of the hall area, other than to use the toilet, during this event. Times for each year level are noted further on in this newsletter.
Open Afteroon Survey:
Thank you to the families who completed the Open Afternoon survey; your feedback has been very valuable for our forward planning. The responses where generally very positive in relation to this event with a number of people stating that they would like to see a session later in the day to cater for those who cannot get away from work. This is something that we will definitely be looking at for future sessions.
Reminders:
As we move in to the end of term break, and then prepare for the final term of the 2023 school year, it is timely for a few reminders that help school time run more smoothly.
- All clothing should be clearly named. Our lost property basket is regularly very full of un-named items. Staff will regularly go through this and return named items to students.
- Site times for students are 8:30 - 3:00pm (unless in before or after-school care). The grounds of the school are not supervised until 8:30am which means any children here before 8:30am are not being supervised which may place them at risk of harm. If you need to be at work at a time that means children need to be dropped off prior to 8:30am, please ask the office for information about Before-school care.
- There will be a number of events taking place during term 4, especially for the year 6 students, so please watch out for all correspondence about these. Communication will be made either with email, text, class letter and/or via this newsletter.
- And, as always please remember that you are welcome to make a time to talk your child/ren's teacher at any time throughout the school terms if you would like to discuss anything. You can do this by directly contacting the teacher or emailing the school.
Best wishes for a postive term break and I look forward to continuing our work together next term.
Kind regards,
Karen Monaghan| Principal
1/2 Roberts have been getting artistic by creating crazy hair self-portraits.
5/6 Faulkner have been inquiring into the different places in the world, and their famous landmarks. We have been experimenting with using watercolours to create realistic sky backgrounds.
Yesterday, in perfect weather, the grade 3/4 classes travelled to the QVMAG and Inveresk Museums as a culmination to their recent inquiry on “How the first fleet impacted First Nations Australians”.
The 5 classes split into two groups for the day, with one group visiting QVMAG and the other the Inveresk Museum. We then met at Riverbend Park for lunch and a play before the groups swapped venues.
At each venue, we made connections that deepened our understanding about the First Nation People of Tasmania, and Australia’s participation in Space Discovery. We also learnt about the sinking of the ship the Sydney Cove in 1796, as well as a exploring a variety of paintings throughout the history of Tasmania.
The students had a fantastic day, enthusiastically learning new information and making connections to First Nation Australians and their place in our history.
Today 6 teams are representing Norwood at the F1 In Schools Challenge Day at the Tailrace Centre. These students, from grades 5 and 6 were selected by teachers to participate in this extension program and worked in teams of 3. Each team has a Team Manager, Designer and Engineer.
The Team Manager has created an A2 poster explaining their design process, the Designer has used engineering software to design their car under strict rules and the engineer has sanded, painted and finished the car ready for racing.
The F1 cars are approximately 21cms long and they are propelled using CO² Canisters. The cars can reach speeds of up to 80km/h.
Thank you to Mr Clark at Queechy High School for milling our cars out of balsa wood as well as all your ongoing support. Thank you also to Willtrade, Temtrol Technologies, Integrated Scada and Exceed Engineering for their sponsorships of our cars in this years competition.
We will announce our results on Facebook over the coming days.
See photos below of the process of designing the cars.

Have a chat at home about the things that your child has said make them special!
Value Certificate Recipients
It was fantastic to acknowledge students across the school last week, who were deserving recipients of Values Certificates. These certificates highlighted those students who have displayed exceptional behaviour, an outstanding approach to learning and academic excellence. Congratulations to all recipients.

Please be aware we have a large amount of lost property!
The most common items making their way to lost property include jumpers and jackets which are un-named. Students have access to lost property during the school day to search for misplaced possessions. When possible, labelled items in lost property will be returned to students.
Due to the limited space for lost property, unlabelled and unclaimed items will be disposed of or donated to our spare uniform clothes at the end of Term 3.
We discourage children from bringing unnecessary personal items such as money, jewellery, toys or other precious possessions to school as the loss of these can be very upsetting.
