Community Notices
Welcome to week 6! This Term is certainly racing by quickly with summer just around the corner. Let’s hope we start to see an improvement in the weather as the days get longer.
Our Colour Run was held last Thursday and was a sensational afternoon of splashing colour and fun. Norwood Primary School raised an enormous $28,645! This is a remarkable effort form the entire school community and we cannot thank you all enough. A huge thank you to the School Association and the volunteers for your work on another successful project. To our parent community who came out to support the afternoon, thank you. It was fantastic to view the sea of colour and the smiles on student faces.
A special thank you to Mrs Simone Fox for her work in running the event. From both an organisational and logistical stand-point, the afternoon ran seamlessly.
2023 Classes
Our class structure for 2023 has been finalised and can be shared with the school community. The structure allows for streamlined curriculum delivery and is as follows:
Kinder | x 2 |
Prep | x 2 |
Year 1/2 | x 5 |
Year 3/4 | x 5 |
Year 5/6 | x 5 |
As previously communicated, we are currently finalising staffing for the year and should be in a position to share this within the coming weeks. Our staff have worked hard in a collaborative fashion to develop our classes and their input has been invaluable in the process.
2022 End of Year Reporting and Communicating with Families
A reminder to families that end of year reports will be sent home on Thursday 15th December.
You can learn more about school reports by watching the video accessed through the QR code or view the links below:

- Visit the Department of Education’s website at: Reporting - The Department for Education, Children and Young People Tasmania (decyp.tas.gov.au)
Sora App - eBook Access
Recently Libraries Tasmania covered the cost of a statewide eBook licence which is accessible to all families through the Sora App. The App provides access to a foundation set of eBooks, eAudiobooks, graphic novels, comics and magazines, including award winning titles and well-known authors. It includes books for early readers, modern fiction and vintage classics.
Students can access the books by downloading and activating the Sora App.
NAPLAN 2023 - Change of Dates
Students will be sitting NAPLAN between 15th and 27th March 2023.
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
2023 will be the first year NAPLAN will be held in March, having previously taken place in May. This change was made so school systems would have access to results earlier in the school year, so they can be used to inform teaching and learning plans for the remainder of the year.
Why NAPLAN is conducted online
NAPLAN online provides a better assessment and more precise results.
One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it uses tailored (or adaptive) testing. This means that students receive questions better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do. Online testing also allows us to provide a wide range of accessibility options to support students with disability to access NAPLAN.
Feedback from students is that they find the online test more engaging.
Please note that students in Year 3 complete the Writing Test on paper.

Please contact Norwood Primary School if you have any further queries.

As per the school and Department for Education, Children and Young People's Sun Protection Polices all students must wear a rash vest or t-shirt or other appropriate clothing when swimming. Students who are not wearing appropriate cover will have to remain in the shade and will not be able to swim. When your child's class is participating in these exciting events, please apply sunscreen before sending them to school. The school will have sunscreen available so that students can reapply, however if your child has sensitivities please pack their own.

In Grade 5/6 Art Options we were recently challenged to create 'thumbprint' bird pictures.
First we used our thumbs and paint to create at least 4 blobs which would later become our birds. These were arranged in a curved position to allow for a telegraph pole wire to stretch underneath.
In the next lesson we were challenged to decorate our scenes with sharpies, markers and fine-liners. We attempted to incorporate some personality features within our birds to show character.
Here are some of the great artistic creations from students.
Tip of the Week
Next time you are out and about with your little person count the stairs as you walk up and down them, count how many people there are in a queue, count how many leaves you have collected at the park, ask them to count and put 4 apples into the shopping trolley etc.
When you are out walking in your neighbourhood observe the letter boxes. Can your child read any of the numbers? Observe how one side of the street is even numbers and the other odd. Pose questions such as, if this letter box is 220 what will the next one be? What will 10 more be etc?
Maybe this week you could play a board game together, just rolling dice is teaching your child to identify how many dots there are (subitising), adding numbers togther and problem solving.
Our Colour Run Day was a huge success. A very big thankyou to our School Association, parent volunteers and school families for supporting this event.
COLOUR RUN!
Last Thursday we held our first Colour Run and what an amazing event it was. The children looked like they had an absolute blast running around the course getting sprayed with colour. It was so lovely to see the whole school together on the oval and having a great time.
A very special thank you to Simone (Mrs Fox) for helping organise the Colour Run, the lead up and on the day. Thank you also to our groundsman Luke, student leaders and parent volunteers who helped out on the day.
The Norwood families were amazing with their fundraising with a total of $28,645 being raised, absolutely amazing. We will present a final figure that goes directly back to the school after the prizes have been distributed in a couple of weeks.
Thankyou to our amazing school community for being involved and helping fundraise towards new projects and equipment for our school.
Thankyou!
