April 10th
What a wonderful term 1 we have had with lots happening each and every day! It has been such a great pleasure to be here at Norwood PS, and I sincerely thank the school community for your assistance and friendliness to help me settle in. I am gradually getting to know names!
As mentioned last week, I was successful in winning a Hardie Fellowship to study in the USA for term 2, and whilst I am hesitant to be away for a term so early in my Principal role at NPS, the learning I will acquire will be of huge benefit for the long-term school improvement in teaching & learning at NPS.
Rachel Brown with be 'heading up' the team in my absence so please say hello when you see her and also know that you can contact her with any questions, concerns etc.
At the conclusion of this term, Mr Garth Foley will retire from his position as an Educational Facility Attendant with the the Department of Education. Garth has been working at NPS for 20 years. On behalf of the Norwood school community, I wish Garth the very best as he begins the next phase of life!
Cynthia Pearce has been successful in attaining the SBM position at Riverside High. Cynthia has loved her time here at NPS, however this opportunitiy provides her with with a higher level of SBM and a big re-development to project manage. We have greatly appreciated Cynthia's effiiciency, high-level skill and friendly approach to her role. We wish her the very best for the future. Mrs Nicole Moir will join us as SBM starting next term.
Some other staffing information for term 2 is .....
- Mr Jamie Rae has been successful for an Acting AST position for term 2 at Ravenswood PS. We have been fortunate to attain Grace Bannon to fill this position for the term. Grace has recently moved to Tasmania after a successful career with the Victorian Education Department.
- Mrs Evelyn Butler may continue her current leave. Miss Terri Gibbons and Mrs Lisa McArthur will continue to work with the class if this is the case.
- Miss Hayley Marshall will continue full-time on class, whilst Mrs Lauren Holt covers some Senior Leadership leave and a support role on Monday & Tuesday each week.
- Mrs Ellen Smith will return to full-time next term as AST.
- Mrs Linda Guy will continue leave for the term.
- Mrs Lynn Wyllie will continue as Assistant Principal for the remainder of the year.
- We have also welcomed Miss Emily Faulkner to 4-5 Summers who is participating in the Department of Education & UTAS Graduation Internship Program.
Wow....lots happening!! I feel confident that the NPS community will warmly welcome and support our new staff as you currently do with existing staff.
I hope to see lots of you at the ANZAC Parade on Thursday 25th April at Princess Square.

Free Dress Day
Today we sent out a SZapp Notification and email inviting families to complete our School Uniform Survey. If you have not already done so and would like to offer your feedback, please click on link below.
Tomorrow, Thursday 11th April is the last day of term 1 for students. This Friday 12th April is a student free day. Term 2 starts on Monday 29th April.
Last Thursday, 4th April, 47 year 3-6 Norwood students participated in the 2019 LSSSA Athletics Carnival. Norwood competed in the division B carnival with some excellent performances from many of our young athletes making it an exciting day. Norwood finished in 2nd place on 191 points, just 8 behind winning school West Launceston. Special mention must also go to the three students who participated in the first ‘para athletics’ events for the LSSSA.
Unfortunately many students who finished top 3 in their event did not collect a ribbon. It is hoped that in assembly this week these can be given out.

Happy Easter from Prep Walker
Kinder Leedham have been busy little bunnies having fun getting ready for Easter. There has been Easter art work, biscuit decorating, bunny ear making and a visit from a mummy bunny and her two babies (thanks to the Barrett family). We hope you have a happy safe Easter and fun school holidays from Kinder Leedham.
4H and 3H Excursion to Hollybank
On Thursday 9th May our classes will be travelling by bus to Hollybank. We will be learning more about the life cycles of plants. We will be identifying native plants and recognising environmental factors that affect life cycles and seed germination. This is part of our science inquiry unit which is called Plants in Action.
We will be leaving school promptly at 9:15am in the morning and returning back to school by 2:45pm. All children should wear their PE uniform and bring their hat, jumper and a coat as the Hollybank area can be a lot colder than the city.
We respectfully ask that children do not bring umbrellas as they can become a safety issue. Children will also need a packed recess, lunch and large drink.
Amanda Horkings and Claire Hill
Change over to winter uniform is on Monday 29th April, first day of term 2. Uniforms can be purchased from Targetts Schoolwear in Charles Street.
Hats do not need to be worn in terms 2 and term 3. Navy blue beanies are available for purchase from the office for $6.00. Thank you.
