A reminder that Mid-year reports will be sent home with students on Friday 1st July.
An email was sent to all families on June 15th in regards to the DoE new reporting format. Please contact the school office if you have not received this. A letter explaining the report will also be included with your child's report.
Visit the Department of Education’s website at: Reporting - The Department of Education Tasmania.
Parent/Carer - Teacher Conversations
It is great to see so many families booked in for conversations with class teachers. Please remember that the purpose of these is to gain insight into where your child is with their learning, and their approach to learning. The meetings have a 15 minute allocation. If you have anything to discuss that will take longer than this, please contact the school so that we can organise a meeting with the appropriate staff member and with enough time to discuss the matter in greater depth.
An update on face masks
Public Health has advised that from Monday 27 June 2022, face masks are no longer mandatory in schools and Child and Family Learning Centres. This is because of reduced COVID-19 cases in our community.
It’s important to continue to:
- stay at home if unwell, and get tested
- practise COVID-safe behaviours such as frequent handwashing and sanitising
- be up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations.
Students, staff and visitors are supported to continue to wear face masks if they choose to. Face masks are still available at our school if you need them.
When face masks are required
If you’re a close contact, you are still required to wear a face mask indoors as per current Public Health advice.
From time-to-time our school might identify activities or situations where masks are required to be worn. We ask for your support when this happens and know that it is in the best interests of our students, staff and our school.
Our staff will continue to wear masks when working closely with students who are vulnerable to COVID-19.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us directly to discuss.
For more information about COVID-19, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.
If you need support translating or interpreting this information, contact the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450.
Kind regards, Karen

Yesterday 30 students represented Norwood in the All Schools Cross Country at Symmons Plains, these students were chosen based on their outstanding performance during our cross country season. All Schools Cross Country is a large scale event with over 200 students from all across Tasmanian in each race, there was much excitement and nervousness throughout the team.
The rain from the night before ensured no runner would cross the finish line as clean as they started which added extra eagerness to compete from our athletes. Throughout the day it was clear that the Norwood encouragement and sportsmanship was on full display, towards both our school competitors as well as other athletes.
All students who competed in yesterday’s event should be extremely proud of the achievement of representing Norwood in this competition as well as the aspiration, encouragement and respect they showed throughout the day.

We have created snowy owls from the book 'Owl Babies'. We used different painting techniques to create our owls as part of our inquiry into animals and their connection to trees.
A great incentive has just been released by the Education Department. If you attend 10 LiL or State Library sessions you get a free coffee at Banjos and your child gets to choose a beautiful picture book to take home.

Classes throughout our school are working incredibly hard to unpack our value of Growth and what it means for them. This will continue to be an explicit teaching focus for us during Term 2.
What does Growth look like at Norwood Primary School?
- looking for opportunities to develop a new skill or learning concept
- learning from experiences, mistakes and challenges
- Encouraging all to make positive choices and do their best
- Listening to, accepting and acting on feedback
- Asking questions
- Never giving up.
Living the value of Growth means that we are focused on the process of learning, and we continually look for opportunities to improve. By embedding this value in the culture of our school, we model the behaviours we encourage in our learners.
As part of the celebration of our Values, we will be awarding those students who have consistently displayed and modelled the Growth behaviours of our Expected Student Behaviour. Students who are recognised for displaying Growth, will be presented with a Growth badge, which they can wear every day. These badges will be presented to students in assemblies later this Term. For parents/guardians of these students, please keep an eye out for an invitation to be a part of this assembly to recognise those students who go above and beyond.

Transitioning from primary to high school is a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but it can also be challenging or worrying for many students and their families. Norwood Primary School are fortunate to be able to collaborate with local high schools in order to make this process a smooth one. Below are two exciting opportunities for students transitioning to both Queechy High School and Kings Meadows High School:
Queechy High School
This will be our first trip to QHS for transition. For this visit QHS run a STEAM challenge in the library, the primary focus of this is to get students working collaboratively and also provide an opportunity for them to mix with some students from another school. Three schools at a time will go to QHS to maximise this interaction.
Date: Week 9 on Monday 27th of June.
Punchbowl, Norwood, Waverley (+Invermay)

Levies are one of the many ways that families contribute to our school community. Levies support student learning by contributing towards the cost of essential items and services.
When setting school levies and charges the school:
- Considers inclusive education, community expectations and family financial constraints
- Sets levies at the lowest amount possible
- Consults with the School Association of the school
Payment for school levies are due, the school will be contacting families with outstanding levies to make arrangments for payment.
if you are unable to pay in full we are happy to take instalments, please contact Nicole on 6344 2533 to arrange. Payments can be made at the school using cash or card or online via BPay. Families with a Centerlink Health Care Card are eligible for financial assistance click here to apply online Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) (education.tas.gov.au)
