From the Principal
Welcome back to all our returning families, and a huge welcome to all new families to Norwood Primary.
What a fantastic start to the 2020 school year we have had! Thank you to our families for all your work in preparing children so well for the beginning of the school year. It has been wonderful to see children so well-presented and excited to start the new year.
This year we will be trialling a change to some of the formal face to face meetings with families.
-
Parent | Teacher Discussions that have previously been offered mid-year will be offered mid way through this first term. We feel that this will provide an opportunity for you to spend some valuable time with class teachers to discuss your child's needs, interests etc. early in the year.
-
Parent Information sessions will be held for Kindergarten and Prep classes only. Information with dates and times will be sent home via class teachers.
-
Families with students in grades 1 -6 will recieve an information sheet specific to each class from your child's class teacher.
Positive partnerships between the school and family is an extremely important part of all children's education so please contact us if you would like to organise a time to speak with staff at any time throughout the year. Class teachers use a range of communication methods including email, phone, class DoJo etc. Please talk with teachers about preferred methods.
If you find it difficult to call or come in during school hours, you may like to send an email to norwood.primary@education.tas.gov.au, and our office staff will ensure this is circulated to the intended staff member.
A few things to remember in order to keep students safe...
-
Duty of care at the beginning of the day begins at 8:30am. Students should not be at school unattended by an adult before this time.
-
Please always use the SCHOOL CROSSING when crossing the road to and from the school. The traffic is very heavy at the beginning and end of the school day and it is not safe to cross outside of this area. Remember....adults too...children learn by what they see from adults!
-
Please keep an eye on what children are bringing to school. Many children partake in out of school actiivites such as fishing, camping etc. and therefore use equipment that may not always be appropriate to have at school. Any item that could be perceived as a weapon should not be at school.
-
Sun Safety.... hats are worn during all outside play and activites until the end of April and then again at the beginning of September. Tasmanian's UV rating is regulary high even on those cooler, cloudy days, therefore no hat will equal sitting in the shaded area....much more fun to be able to run and play with peers!
We highly value volunteer support whether it be regularly, occasionally or a one of! If you would like to volunteer in the classroom please contact your child's class teacher. Other opportunites include sporting events, excursions and a range of fundraising and activity | event organisation with our very active and supportive School Association. "LIKE" the Norwood Primary School Association page on Facebook for further information or contact our school office to see the range of ways you can support. Attached below is the Tasmanian Department of Education "Volunteers and Visitors" brochure.
Looking forward to working with you for a positive and productive year of learning together.
