From the Principal

We are now in the final stages of staffing and class organisation for 2020. We will continue with the same amount of classes as this year with a few small changes to the class structure.

Class structure is determined on what will work best with factors such as year group & gender numbers. This can be a very difficult process and a great deal of time and discussion occurs before a final decision is made.

We will once again have a range of straight year groups and composite classes. It’s important to know that children’s learning is in no way disadvantaged from the class structure they are placed in. We work very hard to ensure that children’s learning needs are being catered for by using a range of formative assessments that tell us where students are with their learning and where they need to go next.

Our class structure for 2020 will be ……

Kinder Gr 1-2 Gr 4-5
Kinder Gr 2 Gr 5
Kinder Gr 2-3 GR 5-6
Prep Gr 3 GR 5-6
Prep Gr 3-4 GR 6
Prep-1 Gr 3-4 GR 6
Grade 1 Gr 4
Grade 1

Although most staffing is finalised, there are still a few placements to be confirmed.  Our confirmed list of staff, including teachers assigned to classes will be published in our next newsletter. Students will bring home their allocated class with their school report on Friday 13th December.

This year we will farewell some staff…..

Mrs Jan Mickleborough will commence retirement at the end of the 2019 school year. Jan has been part of the Norwood team for 33 years and during this time has had a huge positive impact on hundreds of children…some of which I’m sure have also now seen their own children working with Jan. Jan has deeply loved her time at Norwood PS and is now looking forward to beginning the next chapter of her life.

Mrs Beverley Hooper will also commence retirement at the end of 2019. Bev has worked with a range of students throughout her 17 years at Norwood, and has ensured that our students have access to a very well-organised and structured library environment. She is now ready to move on to the next phase of her life.

Mrs Sam Coyle, also ready for a new adventure, will be heading off to take up the position of Kindergarten teacher at Trevallyn PS. Sam has mixed emotions about this decision, but feels that the timing is just right for a change.

Miss Amanda Summers, after a long wait, has finally gained full permanency with the DoE. This requires Amanda to make a move to a new school to begin this next stage of her career. Amanda will begin with Mowbray PS  at the beginning of the 2020 school year.

Mrs Peta Terry has now attained flexible permanency with the DoE and has been given a full time class positon at East Launceston Primary.

We are ever so grateful for the dedication and support all of these people have given to Norwood PS. We will miss each of them and wish them the very best in each of their new adventures!
