From the Principal
Welcome back to the final term of 2019. As always, this will be a very busy term so please ensure that you keep in touch with what's happening via our fortnightly newsletter, text messages, Facebook and various notes that are sent home. If in doubt about events etc., please feel free to contact the school office or your child's class teacher.
2020 Classes
I am now accepting any educationally based requests for next year's class placements. Any request must....
- be in written form
- have a solid educational purpose or appropriate social/emotional reason
Please be aware that requests for individual teachers will not be taken into account.
Requests can be made by email (norwood.primary@education.tas.gov.au) Please add "2020 class placement request" within the subject heading.
Term 4 Assessments
Assessments are an important part of ensuring that we are attending to the learning needs of all students. Assessment can be both formal and informal. Teachers use a variety of both, including, but not exclusive to, scored tests and work samples.
During the next few weeks we will be collecting a range of assessments that will help inform our whole school planning for 2020, assist with class structures for next year and also give part of the information teachers will use for end of year reporting.
Assessment results can show personal growth, reward effort and often be a concrete source of celebration for teachers and students.
Some of these assessements will include;
- Kinder: Second Kindergarten Development Checklist
- Prep: Round 2 of the PIPs Statewide assessement which is completed individually with the class teacher
- 1-6: PAT (Progress Achievement Test for Reading Comprehension and Mathematics). This compares children to National Standards and their previous proformance. It also provides diagnostic information for teachers.
- Civics & Citizen: National Curriculum request. A random number of students from selected schools across Australia.
- Reading Records: 'just right' texts that determine where students are with their reading and what needs to be worked on.
If you would like to know anymore about any of these, please ask class teachers.
We look forward to a productive and celebratory term 4.
