From the Health & Wellbeing Classroom
Grade 1-2
In Health and Wellbeing classes this Term, we are focusing on relationships. We have asked many questions like, what makes a good friendship, why is respect an important part of any relationship and what are our individual personal boundaries with different relationships? The children have talked about having invisible ‘bubbles’ around themselves. Depending on who they are with, the size of their bubble may change, and each person’s bubble, may look a little different. This is a great way for children to understand physical boundaries, as well as discussing what is a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ touch. We have also discussed those physical feelings you may get or, ‘no’ feelings, when their personal boundary is crossed. This might be that yucky feeling in your tummy, a change in your body temperature, a dry throat or shaky feeling. This alerts children to those real feelings of knowing when their personal bubble has been crossed, and it is ok to say no to those touches. We will continue to explore these themes of safety and relationships throughout this Term.
