From the Principal
Dear NPS Families
Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 2. Autumn is certainly upon us with quite a decrease in the temperature over the past couple of weeks. Please remind children to pop a jumper and/or jacket in their bag prior to leaving for school as the cold wind blows right into our playground.
Our current attendance is sitting on an average of 91%. This is a wonderful indication that students are only generally staying away when unwell. Please remember to let the office staff know if your child/ren are away to avoid the daily text messages asking where they are.
REAL SCHOOLS
We are very excited to have Jemma Rust, our Real Schools consultant, joining us on Thursday next week. Jemma will be working alongside some of our teachers in classrooms, running professional learning with staff and delivering a Parent/Carer Session in the evening.
This work is a three year partnership between Norwood PS and Real Schools (founded by Adam Voight). The intention of this is to strengthen positive culture across the school by working with students rather than just conditioning them to 'do' without understanding the relevance. Adam states " It is clear to see that one of the key drivers of increased students disengagement in our schools is that students, and all humans for that matter, don't like being conditioned to perform tasks for which they see no relevance. (Voigt, A. 2024, Restoring Teaching, How working restoratively unleashes the teacher within. Hambone Publishing, Melbourne Au)
This year, we are working on the use of Affective Language, helping students understand their responsibilities, along with the benefits for them, in respectful interactions with others.
We are hoping that many of our parents/carers are able to join us next Thursday evening for the Real School session with Jemma, RSVP to norwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au by Friday 9th May. Please click on the link below to hear a message from Jemma.
