From the Principal

Dear NPS Families

Welcome to our last newsletter for Term 1.
Today we had our final assembly for this term.  It was great to see so many family members joining us for this. Congratulations to all our award recipients and to all students who presented today.
As part of our work with Real Schools, this week all class teachers ran a 'preparation circle' with their class focusing on what they believe are good respectful assembly behaviours. This involves a process where students share ideas and knowledge about the particular topic of the session and arrive at some agreements in relation to the given topic.
Today I was extremely proud of the high-level of respectful assembly behaviour demonstrated. This is a wonderful example of how a positive approach, that involves students being guided to arrive at solutions, can positively develop understanding and growth in a range of areas. The level of involvement in the decision making leads to them having more ownership over what is agreed rather than an approach where we 'tell' them what to do or not to do.
Our proud Prep students will be looking after our assembly bears until the next assembly. Very big effort for their first assembly for the year.

Launching into Learning (LiL)
It was wonderful to see so many young children attending our LiL sessions. Today was a hive of activity in the library with activities focussed on Easter, including a visit from Easter Bunny!
The LiL sessions are all developed to meet the needs of young learners through engaging play-based learning. These sessions also support early social and emotional development.

ANZAC Day
This year ANZAC Day falls on the last Friday of the Term 1 holidays.  I will be attending this event as Norwood Primary's representative.
Last year Norwood PS was very under represented in comparison to the other participating schools. I understand that many students may be away on this day, however, if you are home it would be great if we could have Norwood PS well represented.
I will be at Princess Square at 9:45am with the March beginning at 10:15am. Families are welcome to walk with students if they wish, however, if you would prefer not to walk with us, you can meet us at the Cenotaph (Royal Park) for the 11:00am service.
Students are asked to wear their school uniform.
Best wishes for a relaxing Easter break.

School resumes on Monday 28th April.

Kind regards,

Karen Monaghan | Principal
