From The Acting Principal

It has certainly been a big two weeks at Norwood Primary School. National Science week is on this week with the theme Glass – More than meets the eye. Students around the school have been exposed to some fantastic learning opportunities both in classrooms and lunch time activities. Keep an eye out for photos and updates throughout this week and next on our Facebook page.

There has been some staffing movement that impacts on us here at Norwood. Mrs Katrina Richards has been the successful applicant for a full-time AST position at Longford Primary School until the end of the year. The position will be starting Monday 22/8. This will be a fantastic opportunity for Katrina to continue to build her leadership capacity and gain valuable experience. On behalf of the school, I would like to congratulate Katrina and wish her all the best for the remainder of 2022.

Coming in to the 5/6 team will be Mr Rich Talbot who has come us from East Launceston Primary School and Launceston Big Picture School. Mr Talbot is an experienced teacher who we know will bring valuable contributions to the team and school.

Communicating Learning Progress with Families

Meaningful communication of learning achievement, learning progress and student wellbeing is integral to supporting the partnerships between families and schools that effectively promote student learning and wellbeing. For Term 3 Norwood Primary School will be providing families with the opportunity for a two or three-way conversation focusing on learning progress, application to learning, wellbeing, and/or learning plan goals. Teaching staff may also discuss and share feedback on evidence of learning. More information regarding this communication will be emailed to all families during week 5. Please keep an eye out for this important communication.

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey

The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.

Those in Years 4, 5 and 6 at Norwood Primary School will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.

A letter with more information will be sent home next week for all Year 4, 5 and 6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey. If you would like further information, please contact the school.

Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.

Kind regards, Luke
