Tasmanian Science Talent Search 2021
In Term 3 a number of students in grades 3 and 4, as well as Miss Faulkner’s grade 5 students participated in the Tasmanian Science Talent Search through their STEM lessons with Mr Walker. The theme this year was 'Food: Different by Design' and the students had the option of either:
Bearing in mind the saying 'think global, act local' - Consider the impact of food waste on current and future global food production. Within your local context, identify a food waste problem and design an innovative solution that improves the situation.
Or
Consider the challenges and opportunities facing the future of food production, either nationally or globally. Choose one that is of particular interest to you and design an inquiry to help you discover more.
We had 30 entries this year and I am pleased to say that we had some outstanding results.
In the Grade 3/4 section, Kiarlah A, Jade N and Harper A came 1st and Hunter B, Nathan H and Tyler L came 3rd. In the Grade 5/6 section Jeddadiah :, Luca S and Hugo A came 3rd. We also had 5 teams receive merit awards.
Last Sunday 4 students travelled to Hobart to represent their teams to receive their prizes. Congratulations to all those who entered and especially those who received recognition.
